HI ,I need help with a few things. The verb, disks at the one store ,says that they are (generic) and come in a 100count pack. Are these as good as the reguler ones? They are 4.7gb 8x-r and model #95087. Plus one other thing what does OEM, stand for I see a lot of you type it in your answers. I am a newbee and getting up in age, (63) and just getting started in this field.Tell me is it safe to download with freeware or what do I do to get a movie to put on a DVD disk Any help will be greatly thankful.
Thank You

I'm not sure about the verbatim -8x,but all the +8x data life plus have a fine manufacturers code of mcc-003. I will only buy the verbatim with the labeling of data life plus and digital movie quality.

Some of the verbatim data life are c-mags. Those are the discs to be cautious of.

Dvd shrink and DVD Decrypter are freeware, and very safe to download. Just download them from the software tab on top/under dvd ripping. Also click any of the links with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter highlighted in blue. Also many guides on using these programs are here for the taking.

I just received a shipment of those OEM Verbatims from newegg and the -r code out as MCC 02RG20,they have the exact same MID as the branded verbs, I bought at best buy for 19.99 for a 50 pack. These cost me 27.99 per hundred pack.
I'm taking the rest of these branded verbs back to best buy :)

hey jim, wow, that was fast..didn't you place that order a few days ago? impressive...where you at, i know newegg is in cali as i get my orders usually next day since i'm like in the same neighborhood... :)

but, anyways, just wondering if you have tested the newegg OEM verbs, i know the MID coding is identical to retail and there SHOULDN'T be a discrepency in terms of quality...but, just wanted to hear your take on it personally~ :)

inquiring minds wanna know~ :P i have MANY of the retail ones MCC003 coding as i prefer DVD+R format over the dvd-r; but at this price, im itching to pull the trigger at picking up a few hundred more if i can get a "GO" from the members i've come to respect on here.

naturally, you are definitely ONE of them jim~ have a good one buddy~

I was surprised they came so early.I ordered them on the 11th and I got them on the 13th.That beats both meritline, and supermedia store, for delivery times by 2 days or more.(im up here in the sticks of south dakota)
The CRC tests ive ran on them with dvdinfopro are spotless, the dye is a deep purple like the branded ones I have,I cant tell the difference.

I have been burning Verb and TY in 8X -R format only to date. I just ordered the OEM 8X +R Verbs, though. I think my burner likes those just a little better than the 8X -R from what I've read. It loves the TY's in both formats from what I have read... Can't beat this price!!!!

A lot of people may not want to hear this, BUT, at the same speed and format, they all code out the same!!! Hence, NADA!!! (Besides colorful packaging and graphics) They may have differed in the past... This is the conclusion that I have drawn anyway. When I posed that question to tech support via email, I got this reply:

The following information was submitted via Verbatim.com.
Maybe someone else has more conclusive info besides a marketing pitch. Don't get me wrong, Verbatim is only second to TY in my opinion...

Take my burner, for instance; Pioneer DVR-109 (OEM)- fundamentally the same as the retail A09XL. Or drugs... If you have Medicaid or Medicare, you get generic prescriptions most of the time. If you have an HMO or PPO, you have a choice (unless the brand is still under patent and no generics are available yet). It depends on how much you wanna spend on your co-pay. The end result in all three cases is the same. Same product, OEM is just less attractive. The graphics, software bundle, or colorful packaging and advertising costs extra!

I first started backing up my dvds last fall. The first batch of media I purchased was verbatim data life +4x. It came in 3 spindles of 30. 2 of those spindles were ricohjpn-01 and the other spindle was mcc-002. All in identical tubs, same quantity, and same label. Those ricoh verbs had a harder time playing in the step son's ps2- no disc inserted error-but the mcc-002's were ok. I sold that extra 30 pack ricoh's to a buddy. The maxell +4x have the same ricohjpn-01 code and perform just as great as my mcc-003 and yuden 000-to2's. That's why I will only stick with the verbatim data life plus and not the data life.

Those digital movie quality, coded mcc-002 also performed near perfect in my benq 1620. It definitely hates the dash digital movie quality discs.

Hollandoh,
Majority of the time I goto the video store and make a copy of a new movie that just came out and next day I take it back, I know its illegal but I keep the copied movie for myself.
And I read the other post about the 100pk verbatim , I ordered a 100pk 8x+r should be here on Friday.

it's good to hear everyone's responses...thanks for the scan jim, yeah, spotless results~

wish they had the OEMs over in UK creaky~ :P i bet you'd be all over it~

i guess in terms of quality/compatibility there are a few varying opinions...saugmon KNOWS exactly what works well in his particular setup, while others are still "testing the waters" so to speak...

thanks for the opinions, im going to try a spindle of the OEMs just to see how well they work on MY setup~:) good luck w/ your media guys~

Thats what I wanted to know. I was right, in thinking that someone can rent a movie ,copy it and then take it back, Tell me is there any way you can destroy the movie you are coping.
Thanks,

... Let's see ... can you destroy a movie by illegally copying it? ... Ha ha ha, that's a good one ... However, copying a rented movie is stealing and is a good part of the reason that an excellent program like DVD Decrypter is no longer going to be updated for us legal users ... Thanks gatlino1 !! ...

Jim_dandy, I was not bragging about, do you see me bragging about it in every post? i was just stating to hollandoh that is what i do, and i`m sure alot of other ppl on this forum do the same thing, and will not mention it and more like critize ppl.

Catfreak dont blame me for DVD Decrypter being banned, blame everyone that use that program.
