Thank you in advance for any suggestions in this matter. I recently bought a PS2 on ebay (bad, I know) and it is not working properly.
Version 7 (SCPH-39001)
PS1 CD plays fine
PS2 CD booted (Playstation 2 Logo) but froze during intro of game
PS2 DVD booted (Playstation 2 Logo) but froze during intro of game
DVD Movie results in black screen of death.
No Disc Read Error messages at all.
Here is the unusual part that bothers me the most. I fiddle around with homebrew stuff through memory card exploit. This card has worked fine for years with my old Version 4 console, but with the new one, it blinks white (normal) then black screen of death. It can play my PS1 BootDisc fine but apparently cannot read the .elf on the card...or something.
Yes, I am using only original PS2 game discs. But the important point is, I have received no Disc Read Error messages, just odd behavior not consistent with a problem I've read about before.
make sure the cooling fan is working.then take off the ps2 cover and inspect the inside for any damage or loose connections.there is a reset ribbon connected to the ps2 cover and the ps2 so take the cover off slowly so you dont rip the ribbon off.its hard to tell what your problem is without further inspection.you bought it off ebay so who knows what was done to it.and cleaning your lens is just routine maintainence you should do anyway.especially with a secondhand ps2.it might or might not solve your problem but at least you can rule out a dirty lens.
did you get it working?i didnt mean someone altered it by opening it up.like you said someone could have dropped it.taking the cover off and inspecting for physical damage was what i was referring to.also if someone had dropped the ps2 while the game was playing,the disc could have rubbed the lens leaving a plastic smudge mark on the lens causing read problems.there could be alot of reasons why it is acting up.but inspecting the insides will put you in a better position to know what is causing your problems than quessing what the problem is.or expecting someone with ungodly ps2 knowledge to come along and tell you exactly what the problem is.at this point nobody could tell you what your problem is on what information they have to go on so far.
