Hi, i dont know if anyone can help out. I cant seem to burn any of my DVD+r's i have. they are a cheap media (windata) but i always use them and they always work. Before i decide that it is a bad spindle, i wanted to see if anybody spots any problems in my logfile. They usually burn 90-95% and then fail. They also fail with TMPGEnc DVD author and DVD Decryptor. Heres the Nero Log, thanks:

@iprime,

Like I said; I already gave you an answered in regards to your log at your other post. I can't really think of anything else, except a few more. Let me ask you a few questions here -- have you updated or at least tried to updated your dvd burner's firmware lately? What movie did you backed up that was giving you issues/failed? Did you had any other "cracking/decrypting engines(programs)" running with Nero when you performed your backing up process? Other than the poor "blank media, free up more memory, and the DMA issue", I guess it won't hurt to upgrade/update your Nero. It's latest version is Nero 6.6.0.15 -- or try to turn off "multisessions" when burning/backing up. You may want to get "Nero's general clean tool", go here http://ww2.nero.com/enu/Clean_Tools.html - download it, and run it, then download the latest version 6.6.0.15 from Nero, reinstall all of its programs again, reboot your computer, and then try to back it up again with a better quality blank, such as TY/FUJI, Verbatim and Maxell. Hopefully you'll have a different in results this time.

I'm not an expert on Nero and its log, but Mr. Creaky and Kivory can take a look at this, and hopefully they'll find more and resolve it in due time. I'm still learning as days goes by, and or when I'm here at afterdawn. Here's why I said the above, below is from your log:

@iprime,

Or you can try to back up using this method with DVD Decrypter and Nero Recode 2. Below is a basic steps to rip and back up using both DVD Decrypter and Recode. I posted this on the DVD-R/+R Newbies forum to answer somebody in there, but you can try to follow this small tutorials and see what's the results.

I assumed that you're pretty much familiar with Nero Recode 2 already, since you said you owned it. However, I'm not an expert on Nero, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

01) open your C: drive or hard drive, click on File, New, Folder, and name it MYNEWBACKUP_DVD, enter [ENTER] to save it.
02) now go inside "MYNEWBACKUP_DVD", click on File, New, Folder, and name it VIDEO_TS <---- yes, type in "exactly" like this and then hit ENTER to save it. Now closed that.

(((( to decrypt or rip a dvd movie using DVD Decrypter ))))

01) put good quality media in "dvd burner" (please use good quality medias such as TY/FUJI, Maxell, SONY (all Made In Japan only) and Verbatim (Made In Taiwan is OK since it's rare to find one that's Made In Singapore now-a-days)
02) put original dvd movie in "dvd rom drive"
03) open up DVD Decrypter, click on MODE, File F
04) "source" <----- from your dvd rom drive
05) "destination" <----- browse to your "New Folder" that you created earlier aka "MYNEWBACKUP_DVD", and VIDEO_TS, then click OK
06) now click on "DECRYPT" <--- it's the arrow next to the disc and burner icon. Sit back, relax, go smoke or go watch TV and wait until it's completed.

(((( to encode a movie or shrink a movie using Nero Recode 2 ))))

01) Open up Nero Recode 2, click on "Recode an Entire DVD to DVD"
02) change your "CUSTOM" settings to 4,400MB and check on "Fit To Target"
03) click on "Import DVD", and browse to your New Folder "MYNEWBACKUP_DVD", then to VIDEO_TS, then OK. Recode should do a quick analysis now, once its done you should have the whole completed movie with titles, main, audio, subtitles, extras.
04) NOTE: now you can remove any unwanted audio, subtitles and extras, so your back up will be better on quality. If you don't want to remove anything, then just leave as it is and you'll have a "full disc back up", now click on "NEXT"
05) "Destination" <--- Hard Disk
06) "Target Folder" <--- browse to your folder: VIDEO_TS that you created with DVD Decrypter earlier, then click on "BURN"
07) once Recode completed the encoding process, you'll have at least something like 20 VIDEO_TS small folders inside your folder.
08) open up Nero Burning Rom, Nero Express or DVD Decrypter or any of your desire burning/backing up programs and back it up. That's it... easy as smoking.

Hope this help you a little. I did this method to back up "Million Dollar Baby, Hostage, Raging Bull, Hitch, Coach Carter" and it's working flawlessly.

@iprime,

Go here, http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=17 - scroll down and look for your burner's firmware, just click on it and it will automatically download it to your computer. Once you're done, just click on it to run and it does its thing to updated automatically. Make sure you have no disc inside your burner when updating firmware is processing.

Here is the main page where you can see all models of dvd burner's firmwares: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

Hello Creaky, Alkohol, Kivory...

So... I got the firmware updated, my drive has got the DMA turned on, i'm using the Nero program that came with the writer, it's fully updated as well... I've uninstalled InCD and i'm using half-decent media... I've closed all the programs running in the background so i can have a bit more RAM. But it's still not burning them... I've got tears in my eyes because i can't find what this problem is! Can you hear my voice fade? Help, Hel, He,...!

hmmmm. all i can think of is to disconnect the other dvd/cd or whatever drives they were, and run a 'simulation' burn in Nero, where it doesn't actually write to the disc.

Or just run a simulation burn anyway (it'll want one of your blank media to pretend to write to it) and post that section of the log ...

Weird... It's exactly the same... It has stoped at 1% writing the lead in... The timer is still going just like before and it will go until i stop and close the program. What do you reckon Creaky, is this a software error?

There's one hell of a lot of disks that this drive don't like! Is there any hidden settings screen that i don't know of where i can change something? Because i've never seen something like this, mate. A lot of my mates have dvd writers in their Pc's and any of them have got this kind of problem, even tough they use "made in sunday car boot sale market" media! Crazy stuff isn't it?

@permiggs,

Can you post/paste your "current error log" in here, so creaky, kivory and I can take a look at it? I'm not an expert on log, and I may be not as skillful as creaky, but it would be nice to see the latest error. Don't you think so creaky? All I can say is you [permiggs], iprime and Deluxe are having some rare and tough issue that's all. Hahahas... lol

Don't lose hope yet, have faith in creaky. Hehehes... he'll eventually resolve this in due time.

i seem to be having a few tricky threads lately, but am confident we're gonna beat this eventually. just thought, it's not something daft like a drive having the wrong jumper settings on back of drive is it ?, or trying just this as the only burner ? , or maybe trying the burner in a friend's pc or borrowing one of theirs.. all a bit drastic but it's gotta be something daft.

and yup, let's have another log..even if it's of a simulation burn..

I can't because i get no chance to do it! If you look at the screen, you'll think it's writing the lead-in. But it doesn't take 7, 8, 9 or how many hours you leave it for, to write a lead-in, does it? So i have to stop and close the program.
It looks like, to the program, there is no error because when i stop it, it warns me that the dvd might be unuseable... After 9 hours writing a lead-in?!?
The other log i got was from a dvd-rw, wich works flawlessly. Sorry Alkohol.
Me and Creaky spent the day yesterday trying to get around this problem, and so far all we got was everything updated... My computer IS faster tough, so not all was lost (for me anyway).

By the way i'm a proud dad to a 7 pound girly born last night!!

bless him! - a little, well 7lb buster!

so remind me, are we all up to date - i think we have to point the finger of blame (or scorn) at the media now, everything seems to be up to date and the lead-in problem (you're right, lead-in should be fairly quick) smacks of crap discs. or a crap burner...

There's no doubt the burner is crap but it works on my brother's crap pc...
I just tried to do a simulation, and guess what? The same happened...
Change of tactics... Software?

I would love to buy a hole new package, but i'm skint, the CRX and the CBR are going... The estate is coming... :(

At this point, and seriously, I'm lost. So, does it burn (successful) at your bro's crap pc?

Yea Alkohol, about 2 months ago i took this burner to my bro's, and burned some data on it on a pc-line DVD-R. It burned sucessfully, i also burned man on fire on another DVD-R. Then i brought it back to the same old pain... Like i said, yesterday i tried to do a simulation, and the same happened. Just like if it was burning a dvd. If it happens on the simulation, that means the media (Maxell) sould be ok.

Creaky told me before to update my aspi driver. The one i got is the ForceASPI 4.60, wich is supposed to be the most "stable". I tried to update to the 471a2. I downloaded it but when i run the .exe file, nothing happens. The ms dos screen comes up and just says "press any key to continue" after wich nothing happens. I can't get it updated and i don't know why...

I'm buying a couple of dvd-rw's tomorrow. I'll post the log in here for you.

What is the diference between a DVD-R and a DVD-RW, apart from the obvious?
