@permiggs - hiya, just a couple things...
Quote: Physical memory : 447MB (458224kB)
Free physical memory: 120MB (123632kB)
Memory in use : 73
- the memory usage is a bit high, try to free more up just in case, whenever you're burning..
Quote: Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2285695 (507:55.70, 4464MB)
- set target size in DVD Shrink's preferences to 4300MB to avoid outer edge of future discs. I do this permanently and you'd be surprised how close even that is to the outer edge
Quote: Recorder: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B, Media type: DVD-RW
Disc Manufacturer: CMCW02 -
Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 214
- ARGHHH it's a disc manufactured by CMC!! - but for some reason rewritables by dubious companies seem to fair better than write once discs..
Quote: Burn process completed successfully at 2x (2,770 KB/s)
- looking good!
- it's looking good then, progress is here at last..!, but just don't buy any Tescos stuff other than rewritables :)

I know, sorry, i finished work an ran home crying for a shit, Tesco's was closest...
All the programs that i can close are closed... But i still end up with 43, 44 processes... Most of them with completely alien names... Any ideas on how to find out who they work for?
I got DVD Shrink but i haven't got to know it properly yet.
CMC? I suppose you don't like them...

in terms of the running processes...only thing i can suggest is to "google" them...when i first started, that was the ONLY way i could find out "who they work for" hehehe...over time you become familiar with the processes and which companies use which processes...once you find out the "alien names" using google (that's only a suggestion), you can then go to add/remove programs in your control panel to uninstall the ones that you don't really need~ :)
yes, both creaky and i, among MANY others here wouldn't touch CMC MAG manufactured media w/ a 10ft pole, it's really THAT bad when better quality media can usually be found in the same store for about the same price~ :) once again, it's all about getting familiar with a brand and KNOWING before hand what you will get before actually purchasing...it takes time to know this...

memory usage isn't too bad at the moment, just something to keep an eye on. i was helping someone detail pinpoint memory usage a few nights ago, God knows which thread it was though!
there's not much to work out with DVD Shrink really, i use it 99.5% of the time as it's still great even though it's no longer updated.
As for CMC (creaky shudders!)-
..Memorex/CMC - don't let them near your Burner..... - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/195438

a quick look suggests i may well bookmark it for future use/recommendations. give it a go and see if it helps
I just been on that link up until now and i managed to close 7 useless processes... There's a few more that i will be looking into. To everyone, if you haven't been there, do so! Thank you Creaky. :)

oops make sure you know what you're closing then lol, i recommended that one to you as you'll be ok with it, but there's no doubt lots of ppl out there who i wouldn't recommend it to as they'll crash their PC's shutting allsorts down :)

i'm giving up for the night soon, well after Big Brother's finished. i'm all posted out for the night..
glad you're winning, i'm involved in a few posts like this at the moment, but at least you're coming straight back with responses. You would not believe how many posts i reply to and the original posters never come back to their posts even once. and the daftest thing is most new posters won't ever search thru previous posts, they'd fix all their own problems many times over if they did. ah well at leasts it gives me tons of stuff to refer to for future posts

Sorry, been away for a few days with work...
I've got about 200mb free to work on now, but it is still not working... I'm getting to the point of giving up on this because it doesn't matter what it is that i do, it still doesn't work! It makes NO SENSE!! There must be something in here completely diferent from everything we might think might be the problem... I've got everything up-to-date now, freed some memory to run lighter, got decent media (Maxell, not the CMC's)... Shrinking the DVD's... Should i just format the whole computer and then start from fresh all over again?!? What do you reckon, will the problem still be there?
Anyway, i'm off to my in-law's now (roast), i'll be posting back soon.

It's been a few months since i last came here... There's a reason tough! Well i got kicked out of my house, the missus left me, won't let me see the kids... Got 10 days in the can for trying to force it... The CSA got hold of me and took everything i had... Only kept my pc because i hid it at my bro's... All that in 4 months... And i thought i had quite a calm life! Well im staying at me folks now and just got reconnected... I feel like im 16 again... LOL!
Right, to the matters... Creaky if you stumble across this old thread, i formated the computer but the thing is still there... So, I'm using my dad's pc to do my stuff now... (He's not happy as i'm trying to catch up on the losses, lol!) I was thinking about some upgrades, from RAM to graphics card, so i'll look for the right forum, so we might key in at some point... Thanks for the time anyway mate, sorry if i disapeared just like that but man... That roast WAS bad!

@permiggs - cor, it has been a while, and i'm real behind with my replies, it's taken all day to get as far as this one, but i still recognised your username straight away (pretty amazing with my memory i can tell you!). Real sorry to hear about your 4mths and all that goes with it, let's just say i can identify with a big chunk of your situation as i've got quite a few years of stuff quite similar to your circumstances under my belt. i troubleshoot pretty much all of my waking hours, whether it be on Afterdawn, doing my job or in social aspects of life but i'm happiest going on about media (especially bad media!) or DVD's. Let's just say i may well be feeling like i'm 16 again before the new year is too far gone :)
Any road up, we will be here to help out, in fact now i'm in bed at nearly 1am with laptop trying to clear my replies from last week. I get involved in sooo many threads :O
take care and don't be a stranger, there's always plenty stuff going on round here.
