Hey everyone

I know that TDK makes DVD's that are glossy and photo quality (DVD-R47PQK-L) but they want 5$ a disc for those which is pretty crazy.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any other DVD's that have a glossy or near-gloss finish other than the TDK or if they are still the only ones out there.
Thanks everyone.

Hey Do you mean glossy DVD's or the ones that are physically SILVER because I have Taiyo Yuden silver DVD's and Taiyo Yuden Hub Prints But what I'm looking for is a white DVD with a glossy finish. The Silver DVD's are cool but they don't give high resolution prints. So if you know of a taiyo yuden glossy DVD do you know what the number or serial of those are? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks everybody I forgot about the G05 DVD's

Hate to be a knitpick but I heard that the G05's aren't as good quality as the taiyo yuden. Do any of you have problems with them after a year or two? (Does the data last on them) or do any of you verify the data after burning? Is it always good?

Thanks again.

typically no they arent but i have never had a single problem witht them.....i did with my old LG burner but not with my pioneer or my tdk. Ridata and LG dont mix. they are half the price of yudens though.

yes i agree the TY are better quality but the printing surface for ritek are much nicer , smoother, glossy, the TY are flat white..well the ones i have are anyways, but i do like the silver TY, just wish they were to the hub. There are stores who sell the printable ridatas for like .50 each canadian...you wont find TY in canada for that price.

caleb7777: I've been keeping my eye on this thread because I'd like to find the full hub injet printables with the gloss. Looks like aabbccdd and Paladore came through on this one.

Verbatim data life plus +8x- MCC-003 and the Maxell +8x- Maxell-002-00 full hub printables are the only ones I printed so far and have the matte finish so you may want to stay away from them. I'll be checking into those riteks and ty's when my supply runs low.

Just so that you guys who are interested know I have been experimenting with the spray laquer (I was using a high-quality brand)

If you spray the laquer on the cd before you print -- BAD IDEA the ink fades really bad and colours look terrible and the laquer sort of smudges in the printer and can leave lines right down the cd where the printer rollers are (yes the laquer was dry)

If you spray the laquer on after printing it does help a little bit I'm still trying to see if it makes the colours any more vibrant or not but it does make the label shinier.
Downside: the label is harder to read in bright light because the light can reflect off it like a mirror so you have to tilt it so that you can see the label clearly. Also the laquer does not make a perfect ly flat coating (not on the first coat anyway) and if you look closely or in the light just right you see that the surface is very rough. I think this is because the laquer is sprayed onto paper which is much rougher than sanded wood which is what laquer is for. More coats would probably help but the dvd would start getting thick so it's not a great solution

Bottom-Line: The laquer dvd's still aren't as good as a glossy label print. we need cheap glossy printable dvd's

Hope this helps you guys

Have you tryed the Sony 8x+ with the white glossy tops. They are made by Taiyo Yuden and are on sale for 19.99 for 50 at Best Buy right now. You have to look for Made in Japan on the side.

Just a note:
The TDK Photo Quality dvd's are garbage!
I went ahead and bought ten and have only mustered the courage to burn 3 .
Although the dvd's do print BEAUTIFULLY it will be useless to you unless you have a printer that does not use rollers and you plan on never handling the disc. The surface is so sensitive that if you even let the rollers in the printer apply pressure to it the quality is shot. or if you touch it with your finger it leaves a smudge (after drying). Real weird discs, I've never seen anything like it.

I'll attach a picture of one I printed later.

This was a very interesting thread, I have learned quite a bit on this site and thankful to all the knowledgable people who contribute.
Here is a great site that has really good prices on inkjet printable hub media white matt, glossy, and silver finish. They have TY, Verbatim, and the Ritek 05's.

Oh yes, I also wanted to let you all know about this great product that I found for protecting the surface of your printed dvd/cd's.
Its not laquer but it will seal and protect the surface.
Check it out.
