I convert avi's using vso2divx, then encode with dvdshrink, but when I watch certain conversions on my dvd player the movie is B&W and screen shrinks on TV with a grey box around the movie. There are also some colors underneath the movie within the grey box. Any help would be great!

Thanks

Mike

for the black and white issue, it may be wrong format (ie NTSC or pal). If you live in North America tell DivXtoDVD to force NTSC. If you live in Europe tell it to force PAL. Also, are you forcing a specific aspect ratio? I did that and ended up with the black borders around it. When I just leave it to auto I don't get that.

Thanks, by the way my dvd player is all regional. Would this still matter?

Also the avi I'm converting through divx2dvd is telling me "video packed dropped due to error on frame 2972". I never saw this before. Meanwhile it still converts it, but when I burn then watch on TV, this is when I see it in B&W with a huge grey border.

Thanks

Mike

yeah, it will be able to read the disc but PAL and NTSC use different framerates, so your TV will have issues with it.

Yo it's still doing the samething. By the way I didn't see any section where I can force anything. I'm using divx2dvd and DVD Shrink, that it!

Thanks,

Mike

in DivXtoDVD you should have 2 drop-down menus. One gives you the aspect ratio (auto, 16:9, or 4:3) and the other gives you format options (auto, PAL, or ntsc).

squizzle Thanks allot! I saw it the second time around! It worked, so thanks.

I have another question: I made a dvd of Hitch and the dvd came out great, but the audio is off. how can I fix this? The audio is in sync on the AVI!

Also do you know how to add the sub files to the AVI when burning to dvd?

Thanks,

Mike

to add subs (you have the subs as a seperate file I'm assuming?) you'll have to use a different program like avi2dvd or something like that. DivXtoDVD doesn't handle this, although I read that in the future that will be an option.

For having no audio, maybe you're missing a codec or 2. Try downloading K-Lite Mega codec Pack (it's in the software section of this site, just plug it into the search). That should contain all the codecs you'll need.

I meant the audio is out of sync on the dvd, but the AVI plays fine. Once again thx for our help.

All problems with converting AVI to dvd can be ended by using WINAVI Video Converter. If your machine has enough cooling, power, and RAM you can convert an entire AVI movie to a burnable DVD file in about 15 minutes. You even have the option of burning the converted file immediately after converversion using WINAVI Video Converter. I download a good many movies and finding this little gem has been one of the best and easiest pieces I own. Just a little note - create a folder on your desktop to send the converted DVD files. Alot easier to find after conversion.

HETRICK: what is the key code to remove the company info on the burn?

Thanks,

Mike

LOL, I have never been able to successfully use this software. I keep getting errors like "xxx is not a valid CCE ECL or something like that." Oh well, no big deal.

yeah, I got that a bit on the ones I did using DivXtoDVD as well. I never really bothered to watch the AVIs on my pc so I always thought that's the way the original files were. Give avi2dvd a shot, that may work out better for ya.

I don't have an answer for this one, I've never gotten the program to work out for me.

Hetrick, i am more than just a "newbie"!!!! i converted by AVI file with winavi, that part was super simple. then i clicked the "burn" button and Nero express came up. i went to regular Nero, chose dvd video, etc. but a error message would aways come up. do you have to "author" with winavi? in Nero i can find theafo files, bup file, and VOB file, but something somewhere is wrong. can you step by step me? thanks
