@ps22man,
The Fuji 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" is the same as Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R. Both made by the same manufature, both has the same id code: YUDEN000-T02-00. I believe that the FUJI 4X DVD+R (Made In Japan) and the TY 4X DVD+R is the same as well. In contrast, just make sure it says: "MADE IN JAPAN" and you'll be safe 99.99% most of the time. I prefer the +R over the -R, however, that's my opinion only. With the +R, you can easily booktype the setting into a DVD-ROM format when using both DVD Decrypter or Nero to back up -- this will make it easier for your XBOX system and any older dvd player model.
Here is a few id code, I may be wrong, so please feel free to educate and correct me if I'm wrong.
Fujifilm DVD+R 4x (YUDEN000T01)
Fujifilm DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
Fujifilm DVD+R 8x (RICOHJPNR02)
Fujifilm DVD+R 8x (YUDEN000T02)
Fujifilm DVD+RW 2.4x (RICOHJPNW01)
Fujifilm DVD+RW 4x (RICOHJPN W11)
Fujifilm DVD-R 1x (RITEKG03....)
Fujifilm DVD-R 2x (TAIYOYUDEN..)
Fujifilm DVD-R 4x (ProdiscS03)
Fujifilm DVD-R 4x (TYG01.......)
Fujifilm DVD-R 8x (FUJIFILM03)
Fujifilm DVD-R 8x (TYG02)
Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 4x (YUDEN000T01)
Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 2x (TAIYOYUDEN..)
Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 4x Printable Silver (TYG01)

Meaning it will be more compatible with XBOX, PS2, DVD Players, not only the newest of those systems can play/read only, but older models will support and can read/play easily.

booktyping is a VERY good idea that i use on ALL of my DVD+R media, if your burner allows it, do try it~ :) booktyping DVD+R media changes it to dvd-rom which is THE most compatible format thus far for standalone players...while i do not have any of the game consoles, i would assume that this dvd-rom format would work better; i might be wrong since i do not backup games, but for movies, i can definitely tell you that at least for my stand alone players, dvd-rom (booktyped from dvd+r) plays on 100% of my dvd players.

Hey Kivory666:
CompUSA will have TYG02 and Yuden-002-000 TDKs for 17.99 for a 50 spindle. That 34.00 +tax for 100. Now thats a deal. Just thought I would fill you in, the sale starts tomorrow morning. Just maske sure they say MIJ on the side, some store might have the Taiwans( Not that they are bad but the Tys are better.)

@aland
from your OWN experience, the MIJ TDKs have definitely been Taiyo Yuden media? i have yet to EVER purchase any TDKs only because the risk involved is definitely THERE...they use CMC MAG as well, so, i would just like to know that from past experience, the MADE IN JAPANS are DEFINITELY TYS? just wanna make sure as my nearest Compusa is 40min+ away and it would take me about 1/2 hour to get there~ :) just wanted to confirm w/ what YOU have received when you purchased the TDKs in the past...i like to know what im getting myself into before i take that chance...thanks~

@kivory666. I just returned from CompUSA in Freehold N.J. I bought the last two DVD-R TYG02 50 pack they had. You can tell they are Tys because of the packaging and the MIJ, but the majority of what they had were Taiwan. None of the + DVD were Tys but the salesman said that they sold about 200 packs just this morning. The Taiyo Yuden 50 packs are a dead giveaway, the package is complelely different than the others. I would call and see if the salesman will take a look for you. because in my experience if they are MIJ TDKs they are Tys.

i just came back from best buy, they had ran out of the verbs 50 pack for 20 bucks, but had a 25 pack of fuji marked at 20 bucks too, but one spool had 10 dollars off instantly, i had a price check on em, and were 10 bones for 25. said MIJ on pack, took the chance, (heck, its only 10 bucks)plus they have a 30 day return policy, so i opened em up, tested them, they are TY's.
