Before this 2.9.2.2 was released we did a lot of testing just to get it to work with DVD Shrink/Nero Recode on ARccOS disc. All the latest titles worked without problems. If there should be a problem - it will be fixed.

It did a movie Decrypter wouldnt do.. "Blast"

Now I gotta go make a guide using this proggy :-) I guess they fixed the the problems it was having in this latest release. I just did some pretty tuff DVD's and a couple new releases with this program and it went threw them like butter :-) I just tested the following without any problems
Hitch
RE2
Blast
Constantine
Ice Princess

I owe you an apology cynthia and I am not to big to admit that I was wrong just this once :-) LOL

I would rate it a 8 out of 10, but thats only because I have to rip the whole DVD. Other than that it is simple for the novice and it really works. Now if they can just keep it updated we will have a very good ripper ;-)

True, it's very easy to use.

You did RE2 - that must have been the region code 1 version?

In region code 2 (swedish version) it crashes in DVD Shrink due to the bug with unreferenced VOBs.

I was backing up the first Tomb Raider drive to drive with DVDFab when it failed, that might be the problem. Drive to drive anyway.

Fanboy is a term used to describe someone who is utterly devoted to a single subject. This generally is followed by the devotion and support even when proved wrong.

Anecdotal, by my definition, it's the way too many people here think. It's also all the evidence you have.

Xbox 360 GT: NEGATIVE 273K

My advice: Wait for PS3.

Think you are mixing up DVDFab with DVDFab Decrypter. The first program is a 'shrinking' program - the later only decrypts/rips your files to the hard disk.

dang now you tell me I just spent the las hour making a guide... Oh well its done and at my sight if you wanna check it out.. Mine actually combines the use of Shrink for encoding and Decrypter for burning but it looks pretty close to the one you made. :-)

A very nice guide. :)

[31] One more point I would like to make while we are here is the ?Set Start/End
Frames? function. This is very useful with some movies out there. It is a very good idea
to preview the start of your movie in the preview pane because some movie distributors
are putting a bunch of blank or very odd sounding files at the beginning of movies to try
and discourage you from backing them up, but this little function can get rid of all the
garbage they throw in there. This is a quick example of setting the start frame in case you
have one of those types of movies now.
This 'trash' is removed with automatic with DVDFab Decrypter - so no minutes of blackness before the main movie starts.

Really? Thats cool if it works its getting better all the time :-) I can't remember which movies had thet at the begining so I could test it out? I was thinking of removing that step but I think I will leave it just incase it can't hurt :-)

@jmet
I already tested those movies and they all worked in DVDFabD perfectly and fast too. The only one that didn't work in Decrypter was as I stated earlier "Blast" and thats not even made by Sony.

All ARccOS discs will have this.

One of the DVD Decrypter versions had this problem - until it was fixed in the early days of the first ARccOS releases.

To: bbmayo - "Blast" is rippable using just DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 in both ISO mode and File mode. The DVD is only 4.30 GB so of course, you would only need ISO mode to make a 1:1 identical copy of it. But, it also works in File mode, if you wanted to use DVD Shrink to "Open Files" and get rid of some unwanted audio streams.

Jmet,
My copy of Blast was 8.4GB so I am not sure you have the same one I did. Mine was not able to be ripped with Decrypter by itself, but that doesn't really matter and thats not what this thread was about, but I do appreciate you pointing that out because maybe others will have the same luck as you did.

The point is that there is a proggy out there that is updated regularly which is a very good option if Decrypter still decides not to work..

Cheers

The above problems with VOBs are now fixed.

2.9.2.3 (07/16/2005)
Fix: Output files cannot be accpeted by DVD Shrink and Nero Recode,
when copying some new Sony ARccOS protected DVDs, like Anacondas.

So how is the video quality with DVDFab compared to DVDShrink, anyone done a comparison, or see any marked improvement over Shrink?

TIA,

Rich

You cant compare the two... (as far as video quality)

DVD Shrink is a encoder (shrinker) and ripper

DVDFab Decrypter is stricktly a ripper

So if you are only ripping the move to compare the two then quality difference will be very much the same. The difference will come in the time it takes to rip your DVD and the fact that DVDFab is updated so it will rip anything out there right now. DVD Shrink won't...

bbmayo,

Gotcha, should've figured that by myself, after reading your guide, which was very well instructed, BTW.

Thanks for responding, and the guide,

"Fix: Output files cannot be accpeted by DVD Shrink and Nero Recode,"

Was that the problem or has the programmer decided he/she doesn't want it to work with competing software.

As far as addressing each other with "junior member" and "member up there, off topic, but, I have ~150 posts (few hundred on old name though) and I'm still "newbie", whats up with my status never being updaeted? It's sorta degrading. Forgive me for the off-topic...
