Lets back up a bit and start from the beginning! First I assume you are using Shrink...Right? What burning program are you trying to use?

Shrink can't burn anything by itself.

What movie are you trying to copy?

Sorry, I am new to this all but thanks for your help. I backed up fat albert using DVD Decrypter.(I followed the instructions on the web site ) I got all the right screens as I went thruogh. It was successfully backed up but when I went to burn it using decrypter it had a message on the bottom no devices detected. So I backed up another larger movie and had to go through the DVD Shrink program I got the same message as though it didn't recognize my dvd burner even though it backed up the movie from it. Can you help?

Do you have any other DVD burning/authoring software installed on your PC? If so what?

When you first open Decrypter the first thing it does is locate the drives on your system.

Open the Decrypter Log: Click on "View" then click on "Log". If the Log is on top of the Decrypter screen, just drag it off so you can see the log and the Decrypter screen at the same time.

You should now see what Decrypter has found listed in the log. Mine looks like this:

If you just have a single drive then that is what should be listed. You must have at least one DVD+/-RW listed.

Next, find out if your drive is the one selected and is suitable for burning to your media type.

First, make sure your drive is listed in the Destination drop-down menu.
Click on "Tools" then click on "Drive". This opens the Drive menu. Select "Capabilities" from the menu, second from the bottom.

This will open a listing and spell out the capabilities of the drive.
Mine looks like this and you can easily tell what this drive will and will not write to.

All we want to do here is to just be sure that your drive is the one selected in the Destination menu and capabable of writing to your media type.

Please look at the note at the bottom of the first screenshot. It says "Device not ready(Medium not present)". This does not mean that there is anything wrong here. In this case I just don't have any media in the Pioneer drive. Is this the same message you were getting?

If that is the case then your drive is probably working correctly. The problem will most likely be the media you are using. I have had a one or two that simply were not recognized. It was the blank DVD that came with a burner I bought a while back. In my case it was an Optodisc -R. If you are not doing it yet you may as well plan on buying good media. I use Taiyo Yuden 8X -R lately.

Other good ones are Ritek 8x GO5:

Verbatim 8X Datalife Plus:
