I have some DVD's that will play in my DVD player ,but my PC doesn't recognise them. Is there any way that I can get my PC to read them so as I can burn them?

This is odd... Shouldn't it be the other way around? Is the DVD movie you owned an original copy or a backed up copy? If it's an backed up copy, then it's possible that you'd backed it up on a poor low quality media brand.

You need to put in your dvd-rom drive or dvd burner's brand & model, so other members will be able to help you better. What's the last time you updated its "firmware"? What programs i.e. Windows Media, WinDVD, PowerDVD, Nero Showtime, etc. are you using it to play your movie on your PC? Does your PC/computer able to play any other dvd movies beside this one? If not, then probably it's dead.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

The movies I presume are backed up copies purchased from a PC swap meet, and I have no idea what the quality or brand of the media is.I use Windows Media, Power DVD, Nero to to play DVD's. And yes my PC runs heaps of other DVD's. My DVD burner is a Lite-on DVDRW LDW-4515,and my DVD Rom is a JLMS XJ-HD1665

This is a reasonably common problem with suspect copies of Asian origin - they will play OK in standalones but will not be recognised by Windows or DVD burner.

I tend to believe that it is due to the use of non-english characters in the Table of Contents.

Well it looks like you don't want to back these up anyway but you could have tried updating your firmware. It is possible that could solve the problem of not being able to read those disks as this is 95% of the the reason for firmware updates in the first place (to be able to read different media brands).

Cheers :-)

I've had similar experience of some DVD's of Thai origin that people have asked me to look at - the quality of some is relatively poor and others are not recognised by Windows (on multiple machines).

Some of these will be of good quality but it is really a 50/50 gamble.
