Need advice as to what to do with XBOX!

My unmodded Xbox keeps going on the blink. Makes that same clicking noise but, service message appears, LED flashes red, but then works again later on.

I just learned that there is a code # that appears with the service messag, and I can look up the problem but I haven't seen the error message again yet to check.

Someone told me they would fix by changing original HD with a 200GB HD and add modchip (net cost $150) but do you think it is better to just wait for the 360 to come out instead of trying to resurrect old Xbox? I thought I could just sell the old Xbox for parts at that time.

Any suggestions welcome.

Heres my take on it-- You can put many emulators on the original xbox, anything from atari to ps1, if you mod your xbox and put all those emulators on it and download all the games (I have some 5000+ games on my xbox) Youve more than made up for the cost(flash the bios like I do or softmod and it costs nothing). Then you also have the power to backup all your xbox games to save the cost of damaging your original copies. Have fun with it, install linux :) nothing like running linux software on a microsoft system. I have installed linux, ran winex and played windows games (even ran everquest). Not much for performance on it but at least I can say ive done it.
Its mostly a hobbie, lots of fun to do, but there are plenty of other advantages as well. Have fun with it.

Adding a mod chip and changing HD's will most likely fix your problem.

You could also just call the Microsoft Xbox support line and see what they have to say about it. If it is under warranty they will fix it for a decent price.
