I too will not tolerate any freezing or pixelating period. My pc is fairly up to date P4 2.8 @ 3.2 1 gig ram my drives are in my sig. Although my benq will burn 8x media at 16x I'm old school and still burn @ 4x. Whats a few more minutes to guarantee a good burn. I use only verbatum DVD+R MCC003 inkjet printables booktyped dvd-rom. These inkjet printables are still about 50 cents a disc and it's just not worth burning 4 min. faster and risking a bad burn to me. I also compress more than most. I edit with dvdremake leaving a folder size around 6.5-7 gb and then encode with RB/CCE. Although RB/CCE does an awsome job encoding (can't tell my backups from the originals on my 52" hdtv), the more compression the better the chance for playback issues. Another reason I burn at 4x. If I was backing up movie only I'm sure I would have no problems at 8x or higher.
BTW burning faster will not affect the video quality but it can increase write errors therefor causing the backup to freeze or pixelate.
