Hey guys just a heads up,Best Buy has in their ad this week,Fuji 25 pack dvd-rs for $9.99.And also Sony 8x dvd-rs 50 pack for $19.99.I believe they are the same Sony's i bought at BB a while back, and i have had great luck with them, but i hear alot of good things about Fuji,so i might grab some of them too.

Make sure they are marked made in Japan, or with the Fuji's you will probably get Prodisc instead of TY.

I wouldn't bother with the FUJI's they are listed at 2.4x speed in the ad. Stick with the SONY's (8x). Just remember the 3 key words...MADE IN JAPAN!!!

2.4 Celeron;512k ram; 80gig HD; 60gig HD; Windows XP(SP1).
Sony DRU-710A (BYX4)
DVD Shrink/DVD Decrypter.
TYG02;YUDEN002;MCC blanks.
Favorite Media: Sony 8x+R(MADE IN JAPAN)

Laptop: 1.4 Ghz;256k ram; 40 gig HD;Windows XP
NEC ND-6650A Burner

Yes take it from me, stay away from the Fuji ones. I was using the -R ones, but had no idea about the whole Made In Japan/Made In Taiwan thing, but I do now thanks to someone of you here. The -R's at my local Best Buy were the Made In Taiwan and were crap. I noticed today while at Best Buy buying more of the Sony +R Made In Japan ones (which work great), that they had the Made In Japan Fuji's....but I have been happy with Sony and will stick with them.

jon,you must have got lucky, all of the sony-r's and fuji-r's at BB i looked at were made in taiwan, the made in japan ones must get snatched up quick,if they even get them at all.but i'm happy with my sony-rs,they have worked great for me so far.

I just bought some DVD's today from Best Buy. The Fuji -R media is made in Taiwan. The Fuji +R media is 8x and is made in Japan (YUDENT02). The Sony 50 dvd packs are made in Taiwan. I got the 8X +R media and it works great. For some reason, my Plextor 712A only recognizes 4x as the slowest speed. I normally use 2x which is the Plextor's lowest speed to do my movies, but these disks burned great at 4X.

I must not be in a media hotbed. My Best Buy had the FUJI and SONY's from both Japan and Taiwan. I grabbed 1 of each of the MIJ's. I was curious to test the quality on the FUJIs as I usually use the SONY MIJ's. The FUJI's were listed as 8x...even though the ad said 2.4x.

:)

i have personally had EQUAL quality with BOTH the FUJI and SONY DVD+R MADE IN JAPANs...if people take the time to notice that the manufacturer code is IDENTICAL regardless of which brand you choose between these 2, i for one, can attest to the quality of Genuine TY media in either FUJI OR SONY~ :)

i had a pack of the FUJI 8x DVD-R MADE IN JAPAN from best buy MONTHS ago (4-5 months) and those are TYG02s...VERY good media, again by Taiyo Yuden~ but recently, as many people have alluded to, it's hard to find the MADE IN JAPAN Fuji 8x DVD-R nowadays, this is true here in the LA area of Cali. as well~ :P

i will stick to the DVD+R format MADE IN JAPANs for BOTH of these brands...fuji/sony...the discs are identical in quality/playback, the ONLY difference is the top...where one has "fuji" the other has "sony" LOL...same manufacturer, same quality.

to the people on here that know me and my media preference, i will ONLY suggest getting the Taiyo Yuden ones...many have had great success w/ the made in taiwan sony coded ones..but, for the same price, i will ALWAYS get the made in japans if they are available...

i have used 100+ of sony 8x-r made in taiwan(coded sony08d1) and i have never had any problems. however dont burn them any faster than 12x or u will get crc read errors. some burners will let u burn faster than the rated speed, i never go over 8x anymore myself.

Picked up two of the Sony +R 8x MIJ 50 spindles today. Coded out as Ty's like they were supposed to. I have never had a problem finding the MIJ's in Bestbuy anytime they have them on sale. I really, really love the Fuji's. I'm sure the Sony's will perform equally well since both are TY's.

Thanks for the heads up. Got to love this place for the info we all share.

@pholmes31,

That is the main reason why I prefer and stick with 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" medias only. I've just picked up another 25 packs of FUJI 8X DVD+R MADE IN JAPAN, code: YUDENT000T02 from Best Buy and loving it. That shit is one true genuine Taiyo Yuden. In contrast, Taiyo Yuden is the best, in addition the FUJI, SONY and TDK, all 8X DVD+R "MIJ" are also TY as well.

Don't be a fool, so just listen to Kivory and I. We've been saying this many times before; all you need is "MADE IN JAPAN" on the spindle box/package period.

Well,i bought some of the -R fujis made in taiwan, and the first one i tried to burn turned out like crap, skipping etc.So i took them back to BB.But the sony -R made in taiwan have turned out great for me.So if buying fuji if it says made in taiwan on the package,i would be skeptical, but that was just my experience.
Also guys i use -R because my friend recommended them and said they were probably the most compatible. But i have never tried + R maybe i should try them next time, esp. if the sonys are made in japan.
