Dvd Quality?! Something doesnt make sense to me

Ive been using Dvd shrink to backing up my dvd collection for awhile now and the quality of my back ups are superb, just as good as the origonals.

I dont know why i havnt asked this before, but here it goes.

For all of you out there who have ever watched a Pirited film, which are sold on the streets im sure you have noted that most if not all of them are terrible quality. I have seen countless Pirated dvd and the quality of 99% of them where terrible.

My question is why?? Why are these movies such bad quality, it doesnt make sense at all, pirate dvd which are sold on the streets have been around for years, and still they have not managed to perfect Dvd copying, where as there is great free software which will make flawless backup of dvd. I cant imagine that they are using crap softwarem i have used the worst and cheapest quality dvd -r and burned them will older dvd burners yet the quality is still a 100 times better than the crap ive seen on the streets

So has anyone out there got any ideas how they manage to produce such bad quality dvds?

Most pirated dvds contain viruses for one. secondly they use poor medium and copy at high speeds with less then perfect compression and software. DVD Shrink was made to perserve the original quality of the movie while compressing it, to answer you other question.

Please feel free to correct any part of my post.... I'm new at this.

Sorry to correct you engage16 but that is not the case. The thing about pirated dvds you can buy at some dodgy car boot sale is that they will 99.9% of the time be of films that are currently at the cinema so have not yet released onto dvd. The majority of the times all they are is some bloke sat in a cinema with a video camera recording the film. This is then just downloaded onto a dvd and thus is why it is such bad quality. As for the other 0.1% they are made by trained monkeys who use sticks and excrement to make their copies.

I'm not going to correct any part of your post, but add a bit more.
Im from a small town, so I really dont see much pirated material being sold on street corners.

It might be possibly, that the movies that are copied on a dvd, are downloaded off the net,and arent of good quality to start with.When the file has to be converted to dvd, that further hurts the quality.

A lot of the stuff(but not all)you get off the net, are movies still in the theaters, and are shot by some bozo holding a camcorder.Ive actually seen the shadows of people walking in front of the camera.

Thanks for all your replies.

I can see where your all coming from, but still i just dont see why there are decent Pirates out there. If one of them could rise above the rest in an area there'd be no competition.

By the way i to have seen a dvd recored by an idiot in a cinema, in on of these film you can actually see people getting up and walking pass the camera to get out of the row, during the film. and in another one the camera actually fell off the seat and the idiot didnt realise for at least 5 minutes, lovely shot of the floor for 5 mins
