I stuck Monsters Inc. into dvd decryptor to make a backup because it already has a few scratches on it from my little one here, however I see it is HUGE (over 8 gig) which surprised me because it doesn't seem to have a ton of extras on the main feature disc here.

Is it so big because it has a choice of widescreen or full screen at the begining of the movie (in other words is this movie doubled up - both widescreen and full screen versions ontop of each other on this disc resulting in an 8 gig file size?).

What would be the simplest way to take JUST the movie (in either format widescreen or fullscreen) and pop it onto a dvd-r.

I have been reading for a while in the forums and I understand it will take some work to do this, but I was hoping someone might know of a specific way to get this to work on this film fast and easy if at all possible.

This was the very first DVD I backed up.

It was a nightmare !! But it was my first one.

It's not the easiest of DVD's to backup.

It was also one of the first that I backed up, I don't remember having any problem with it.This was region 2 mind you so maybe it didn't have both screen ratios on it

I agree with homerj/malum.

It took me a while but a long time ago.

If I remember.
I ripped the whole disc and stripped out everything - just movie/6ch audio LEFT.
I think it was still TOO big slightly and had to cut off the end credits.
Did not want to re-encode!

There are 2 ways.

a) Use DVD Decrypter to extract the movie, subs and sound, then use IFO Edit, then burn to DVD-R. The US version is under 4.7 for the movie. Follow this tutorial here http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/129774.php or here http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=109346

OR

b) Use DVD Decrypter for the movie, subs and sound, then use DVD2One ($42 well worth the price) and then just use your burning app to make a DVD-R.

Triple X was not hard at all (for me). Simple DVD Dcrypter, IFO Edit then Nero, done. No re-encoding needed.
