Hello!

I know this question has been posted many times, and I have read all the threads I could find, but I still cannot get my backup to load if I try to use Action Replay Max.

I'm using Swap Magic version 3.6, a Fliptop PS2 version 9, and Action Replay Max (just purchased so it must be a recent version).

Method 1
Quote:
DVD BACKUPS
1. Boot AR MAX (use swapmagic first if its a backup too)
2. Select the codes you want
3. Select Start Game
4. The cd/dvd drive will now eject automatically.
If you have a version 1-8 ps2 replace the AR MAX with the swap magic cd.
If you have a version 9/10 ps2 replace the AR MAX with the Swap magic dvd.
Once you have made the appropriate swap press eject to close the cd/dvd drive and press x.
5. Once the Swap magic cd/dvd has loaded do the following...
If you have a version 1-8 ps2 swap the swap magic cd with the cdloader using ea method and press x.
If you have a version 9/10 ps2 swap the swap magic dvd with the dvdloader using ea method and press x.
6. Once the cd/dvdloader has loaded press eject and swap the cd/dvdloader with a high toc original such as the swap magic dvd and press eject to close.
7. Wait about 7 seconds and press x.
8. Once the screen that says "swap dvdr by ea method" comes up swap the high toc original with your DVD-R backup using ea method and press x.
9. Your backup will now load with cheats.
First of all, step 4 never works, the tray will not eject automatically. I hit the eject button instead and I get to step 5.

I then insert DVD loader (downloaded and burnt the image onto a DVD-R) and the Swap Magic 3.6 screen disappears like it should. The DVD loader disc stops spinning, the screen is still black and stays black, I hit eject, and replace it with Swap Magic DVD. The disc starts spinning, I wait 7,10,60 seconds, but the disc never stops spinning and my screen is still black. I never get to step 8.

Could this method be outdated?

Method 2
Quote:
load sm dvd
swap with action replay max
pick your codes
put your sm dvd back in
now swap it for your cd or dvd loader but only dvd loader works for me but maybe cd loader might work for you and in that case use sm cd not dvd
next put in the sm cd/dvd and then press x
and then swap for you game and your game should load with codes
This method fails early on. When I put in my Action Replay Max (which I purchased), Swap Magic tells me it is not a valid PS2 disc. It may have been assuming that you would use a ARM backup.

Method 3
Quote:
1) Put in the ARmax disc
2) put in the Swapmagic 3.3 disc when prompted
3) select codes
4) start game
5) swap for your backup

It's so amazingly easy I thought I would cry. No considering TOC sizes, no crappy DVD loaders that are for some reason Spanish and burn onto CD-Rs, no nothing. It works like a charm.
Using this method, my Swap Magic screen goes away the way it should, but the screen just stays black and the backup stops spinning.

So now what do I do? Or what am I doing wrong? Did anyone use a recent Action Replay Max and Swap Magic 3.6 together and actually tested it? Could something have changed? Are there better methods?

Thanks very much in advance!
Jael

Well, I guess my thread title should have been something along the lines of "OMG HEEEEEELPPPPP!!!!!!!!!! LOL" to get noticed. I hardly ever post on support message boards because almost everything has already been posted and can usually be found by searching.

But anyway, for future reference, I did get it to work.

I know for sure that I have a PS2 v.9 because the model number indicates it, and because I ordered a v.9/v.10 fliptop case for it, which fits.

So, as Senior members post as a reply to each Action Replay/Swap Magic thread (Method 1 above), all I had to do was use the Swap Magic CD and the CD Loader instead of the DVD versions despite having a version 9 PS2.

That's it. Thanks to the people who try to keep this board sane. I have found A LOT of solutions to a lot of problems just by reading these forums.

the way i do it whit my v12 should work for any version anyway

boot PS2 with AR media
go in expert mode
select game
select code
eject AR disk and insert Swap Magic media
start game (will prompt you to make sure you have the game media inside just press ok)
swap magic should now start and will bring to your normal swap magic boot sequence
when asked to load game open your flip top to swap media with backup

that`s it, that`s the way i do it and it work all the time

PS2 PsTwo Slimline (V12)
Fujifilm/RIDATA DVD-R 1x-8x 4.7GB
Swap magic 3.6 + AR MAX EVO + Flip Top

Yeah I used the same method on my V10 PS2 and it worked like a treat. I now have a Matrix Infinity on a V12 PS2 so I just insert AR Max, insert game and pick my codes via expert mode.

I have a problem similar to the topic creator's.

When AR asks for the game CD or DVD, if I insert Swap Magic CD, it crashes after I try to load the game backup, and if I insert the Swap Magic DVD, the game loads but without cheats.

Is it possible my AR Max CD is old?

I have a backup ARMax, Swap Magic CD 3.0 & DVD 2.0, and a Ver. 7 PS2.

Thanks

Oh, and I usually don't use the SMCDs, I use the memory card exploit, so the SMCD program is already in my memory card. Could ths be the problem?

I have games on my external HDD that i play with my slim ps2. I just got AR max and was wondering if i can use codes on games that runs off the HDD. Like some how save the cheats so it will stay on my HDD or Mem card. Then run the game from the HDD using USBextreme and use cheats stored in the mem card or HDD. If you know how to do this please help me im kinda new to this stuff.
