i need some ideas from you guys on what i should do about this problem. alright it starts off i bought this ps2 from my friend and he sold it to me for $65 and it worked for about a month and then it wouldnt read any games it would say disk read error. ive tried cleaning the laser but still no reading games, then i called the ps2 hotline and they said they would get me a refurbished one for $45 but i dont feel like spending $100 all together on an old ps2 then i tried calling radioshack and a bunch of other places that might could had fixed it but no one could, do yall have any sugestions on what i should do thats under the price of $30, and if anyone wants to buy it from me you can if you want the parts, just PM me

just sell on ebay you might get 20 to 30 bucks even when its disc read error. have you tried fixing it not just cleaning the lens. go google search ps2 disc read error you should have good sites how to prolong the life of your ps2. i suggest not to adjust the voltage everything else do try it might work for awhile. But eventually its going to be done for. It is probably the sph-30001 series.

The disk read error happens to loads of people..Happened to me aswell, I think what the trick is that each DVD has its own load time..In other words, when ur reset button in RED u press it once so that it turns green and plays the game etc..but if u keep the button pressed for like say 4 seconds when its red it might play the games that don't work...My Ps2 had stopped responding to DVD movies to I did that and now it works w/o a problem, just keep the button pressed for like 3 or 4 seconds more than usual while turning it from red to green

i'm assuming from your name (Clemson?) that you're in the US, if so Sony should replace yours for free if it has the disc read error, all you need to do is answer all the questions "the right way".
Damn...

have you ever dropped the ps2?
no.
is the black warranty sticker still on the ps2?
yes.
have you tried playing the games on another ps2?
yes and they worked fine.
are you using any accessories on the ps2 that were not manufactured by sony?
no.
they ask that kind of stuff, if you give them the answers they are looking for they'll say something about waiving the fee and all you'll have to pay for is sending it to them, they'll pay for return shipping. it worked for me. it should happen like this as long as whoever you speak to isn't a jerk. i'll assume you already know the number.
Damn...

the best thing to do is replace the laser. It will cost you about $50 but that will usually fix the disc read errors. Or just try adjusting the lasehttp://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=ps2repairr
the laser is usually the cause of disc read errors and either adjusting it or replacing it are your only real options.
P.S. Let's Go Duke!!! hahahahaha

that's not true, my warranty was long gone when i sent mine(sticker too). alot of those sites assume things and give them out without knowing whether they are the truth or not. none of the sites i've seen about the free exchange thing have ever had 100% accurate information. sometimes you have to find out for yourself.
Damn...
