there it is
i think its the dvd itself thats the problem
im using TDK DVD+R
i tried using my very last HP DVD+R and that worked with my roxio
so i have a hunch its the TDK dvd discs that are the problem and not the program, the iso, or the burner.
i though TDK was good... >.>
EDIT:
By the way, unlike my very first post
this is a different method
this log is an error log from trying to "Burn pre-authored DVD-Video using Nero"

Quote: Please try the following solutions:
Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
Send the recorder in for service.

@creaky
when you keep saying "update that firmware" im assuming the one for the dell OEM drive.
i did as you told and im going to try burning soon
but if HP discs are bad, then how come hp works yet TDK doesnt?...
my TDK are DVD+R 8x.
Also, for updating the ASPI, all i need to do is run it and then unzip it right? the default location is the right one too, correct?

@sp00g - leave the ASPI be for now then.
yes update the firmware for the dvd burner. firmware teaches the burner about media/newer media/burn speeds so if it's out of date you will have problems.
as to media, burning a few of one type of disk does not guarantee discs are good. i myself got 'burnt' by many 100s of crap media that all burnt 100% successfully but don't work properly - see the 2nd link in my signature for info about it, and bad media woes in general. if i got paid a penny for everyone that said "it can't be my media" i could afford my own media shop :)

Hi Creaky,
Quote: CdRomPeripheral : Generic DVD-ROM 1.0 d347prt Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
I don't think you can turn on DMA on this device, it's Daemon Tools v3.47.
And I don't think it will let you change it.
Don't think it would matter anyway :)

Weird, TDK are considered not too bad media.
Then again, I'd have to double check the Media ID and check with http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia
Firmware update may help, if those are new 8x media, and his burner doesn't know what todo with them :)

i know, i suffer from posting overload so can never remember which ones are Alcohol virtual drives, daemon, tom cobbley, blah blah :)
i see far too many posts methinks, the repetition in posts (especially with XP and it's DMA woes) does actually do my head in sometimes :O

see if you can take those TDK back.
out of curiousity let's see exactly what TDK's you have there.
Download dvdinfopro (free download) and run a TDK thru it's media info check, pasting results here.
Hopefully those TDK aren't CMC, but if they are it could explain what's going on...

seeing this has jogged something. Had a quick check and i remember looking into NEC drives before - see throughout this thread - someone had an NEC 1000A and another had an 1100A in this thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/197820
Another thing i remembered is this - http://herrie.org/upgrdr.html - Basically you could upgrade your drive very slightly, by changing it into an NEC 1300A. This would allow you to burn to -R discs, but only at 4.0x for DVD-R and 2.0x for DVD-RW discs.
But as your drive stands, it is only presently capable of burning to 4.0x DVD+R and 2.4x DVD+RW discs (i guess you know this, i'm just playing catch up as i only just remembered all this)

so now i realise you're limited to buying only 4x media, which is gonna start getting scarce due to 16x discs out now....

Hi there,
But I'm sure, as 4x media goes away, 8x and 16x media prices will start to drop.
Those older drives, like my LG-4040B which is a 4x burner also, should work with those new media, else I'm sure/I hope LG will release a new firmware to support those new media.
Question: If all I can burn is 4x max, I don't think new firmware is needed to burn 4x on 8x or 16x media !

this is something i'm not sure about; i only recently bought 16x medis for my drive as one of the other guys advised my firmware was fine with 16x specifically, however surely if a 4x drive (being fairly old) isn't aware of anything over 4x then won't it have a problem even recognising newer disks IF newer firmware isn't brought out. I see many posts each night where various burners' firmware is already say a year out of date ?...

so essentially, those discs are worthless to me...
can i return it to TDK even if im missing a few dvds?
and i can upgrade my drive and that would let me burn -R and maybe solve my TDK dvd problem?
why isnt dvdinfopro reading my dvds though?
