Hi all,

I've been burning my backed up copies of games recently and the majority have been fine. But there have been a couple of occasions whereby some backups get to the synchronizing cache part of the burning phase (at 100%) and then never comes off of it.

I've so far backed up (burnt via DVD Decrypter) about 15 games, and 4 or 5 times the contiunal synchronizing cache has come up. If I try burning it again, it sometimes works, and has done for a couple of games - but I am running low on DVDs and do not wish to keep risking losing them! Because if it does not finish synchronizing cache they are unusable!

I am using Verbatim DateLifePlus Advanced AZO DVD-R. I've been told that they are good media, and it's odd that some games work and others stop at synchronizing cache, even if a previous burn of them works! It seems totally random but has now happened 2times in my last 3 burns and I am getting concerned by it.

My DVD burning drive is a USB Atapi DVD Dual and I've had no problems with it whatsover so far.

Any ideas?

Happy to relay more information.

Thanks!

have you tried the backups that got stuck to see if they work?

how long do you wait when it is synchronizing the cache before you take it out?

I've tried those backups and no, they do not work.

Well, when the burning goes fine, a disc takes about 22mins to make. All burnings roughly get to synchronizing after about 20mins, and I let it go for as long as possible.

With the ones that ultimately don't work, I have left in for about 1hr. Tried it 4 times now, just does not work, then I have to hold the shut down button to get the disc out to reset everything.

Tried a backup three times now and each time the same result, just does not work syncronizing. The timer just carries on tick tick ticking away. I've attempted reinstalling the programme but to no avail.

i had this same problem. occasionally it will just sit on 100% for a while. I was thinking that maybe its a USB burner thing, becuase i've got a benq usb burner.

EDIT:
i think it has something to do with the media used. i tried twice burning an iso to ritek G05 dvd-r and it didn't work. it worked fine when i tried burning to a dataplus DVD+RW though.

With the media though, I have succesfully burnt about 20. Not saying you're wrong mate, not at all, just saying weird. Plus I just ordered another spindle of them!!! They are expensive and I was told very very good quality; perhaps even read that on this site!!

Could it be to do with the burn speed also?

I've been burning them recently at 2x

It would take a while longer if your burning at 2 speed, have you checked to see if vertify burn is click, this could be the delay. I know that if you cancle the verficication it can damage the disk and will not boot.

make sure its unticked

It is indeed unticked and games of identical size still take the same 22mins to finish completely when it all goes right.

So infuriating! I will try once more at 1x speed and tell you how I get on.

I unticked lock volume and I left it for ages.

After 2 HOURS, it finally said complete but did not work.

I now wonder if it didn't work because it didn't lock the volume....

Jonmoody,
I have found that if you buy the 25-pack of Verbatim, you should be all right. If you should buy any other size pack (50,100,200 etc.) check the quality of the discs. I have had MANY problems with the quality of Verbatim discs in the larger packs.(ie: major flaws on the burning surface) They will however, burn what you are burning, but playback will be problematical at best. And if you create backups of the said DVD/game,then your computer will have problems loading/reading it, and it will all be for nothing. I have found using Sony discs as back-ups is good, all though for some stupid reason, neither my ps2 or my Sony dvd player will recognize the discs. hope this helps.

Does anybody else's DVD Decrypter always say the Write Rate is at x2.4?

No matter at what speed I set it at, x1, x2, x4, x8, it ALWAYS says the write rate is x2.4

Common?!

Jonmoody,
What type of burner and burn program do you have. Also some discs will only burn at x2.4.
