wells folks, here's a new error, hopefully somoeone can help. I have trying to burn from some double sided discs (Magnum PI) and twice now so far, DVD Shrink will show 100% complete yet I get a window saying "DVD Shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue. Programming error - exception occurred". So I try to burn the file anyways using Decryptor and I get this message, " invalid or unsupported image file", yet it is an ISO image. So what the hell is this problem??? I have tried to do a restart and it keeps doing the same error for only a couple discs. I have deleted the file and tried it from scratch again and get the same thing. HELP!!

Try ripping with DVD Decrypter in file mode to your hard drive first and then use Shrink. Here is an article on your error that give more information.

Ok, go ahead and laugh now but when I look for destinations to rip to, all I get is the D and E drive, not the C drive. Or should I be in Read mode? So if this is true, I read the disc to the hard drive and then use shrink and select the new file (s) as it's origin place?

LOL, alright, I'm an idiot because solution 7 explains it to me, talk about trying to run before I walk, LOL. Let me try this method. One quick thing though, I feel comfortable with decrypter and shrink, what's with the hoopla about these other newer programs? Should I be changing over to these newer programs?

Go to this site for guides on using Shrink and Decrypter

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm

Yes you can use read mode in Decrypter rip to your drive and then go to Shrink and file tab and then open disk image.

Shrink and Decrypter work fine at the moment if you start encountering errors from new protections you might want to think about using DVD FabDecrypter which is free or purchasing AnyDVD which is one fine program for the money and has great support and updates.

I decrypted it first and then shrinked it to a file on the desktop. now what? I use decrypter to try to burn it and it looks for an iso file from new file created and can't find one. That page that had the solutions talked about making an ISO file from the new files but how?

Rip your disk in file mode to your computer hard drive. Open DVD Shrink and go to the Open Files mode, find your file. You can then use the re-author tab to remove any unwanted extras or unreferenced material. Hit the backup button make sure you have your drive selected and then burn iso image with Decrypter. Read the guide

I did all this. I then tried to use decrypter to make a disc from the files created and it couldn't pick any ISO file that was made. So I tried to burn it (the file) as is hoping it would take the files and maybe create a movie out of them and all it did was copy the files as they were.

If you ripped your disk in file mode, you then must use Shrink because DVD Decrypter will only burn iso images. Since you are still having difficulties, then download the 21 day trial version of AnyDVD and CloneDVD these should have no problems unless your disks are bad. Both programs are easy to use AnyDVD just works in the background to break the encryption and CloneDVD will encode and burn your movie. I use these programs for my TV episodal disks because I can split the large disks to two and preserve menus on both.

I started using the CloneDVD and AnyDVD and it runs ok. I was able to burn both of those episode discs. Have you heard of this error: data error (cyclic redundancy check) ? It has happened to a couple Simpons discs and King of the Hill. Thanks for the help.............chris

99% of the time CRC errors are disk related, either the disk is scratched, dirty, smudged or has an imperfection. For these disks you can try cleaning it and see if it works, or take it back and get another.
