Ok, if i dont want to sign up for tivo service, and just want to use the vcr functionality, how do i do that? If i allow it to make the tivo call, what will it do? Is there a place i can get an orig. tivo OS image file (ive heard the early versions allowed the vcr ability) BTW, I have a series 1 tivo

ok, nvm, found out that you can go through guided setup w/o activating on a series 1.
