Here's my DVD5 Ripkit for GT4.
Please read the 'readme.txt' file inside the rar for information.
Tested on PAL (SCES_517.19), also coded for NTSC(SCUS_973.28) but untested.
All other versions will, no doubt, fail.
You can download the tool from my site at http://www.BackupTools.co.uk

Sonix, I grovel at your feet o' mighty one! Great stuff! Myself and a few others have been working on this for a litte while now and it's great to see that somone's finally cracked the VOL files at last. OK, so it's only a rip at this stage, but that's a good place to start. I'll give it a whirl later.

Just to add, I wouldn't mind getting hold of a copy of the decrypted vol file tables sonix. Might help with playing around with it a bit more.
Edit: Damn! program is crashing when "Patching files". This is on NTSC version. Might have to borrow a PAL version to try it out properly.

I dont know if this is the place to ask but, how do you create a rip kit, is there any guides that can teach or is anyone out there willing to teach. I want to advance into the subject, so i can help create ripkits for other people.

Updated to v1.01
I have fixed the issue concerning the movies and I've updated my tool to give you a proper ripkit. The new kit contains more movies (including the intro which can now be played), it also gives you the choice of which movies to delete, or, if you want to give it a go, you can try downsampling.

Hey Sonix
I was looking at your site and saw this:
Toxic Dual Layer Patcher v1.0 released!
As many of you are probably aware, the PS2 has problems running DVD9 games backed up onto dual layer media due to to problems reading from the second layer. This is because the data format on burnt DL discs is different than on pressed discs (burnt = OTP, pressed = PTP). However, we have discovered a software hack which allows the PS2 to read even burnt OTP discs resulting in working dual layer backups! Our Toxic firmware for DMS4 chips already includes auto-patching functionality which applies our software hack on the fly when booting games on dual layer media. For those without a DMS4, we present the Toxic Dual Layer Image Patcher! The patcher works by applying our software hack to the game image (.iso, .gi etc) before burning. Once the hack has been applied by our patcher, burn the modified image to dual layer media and play! This method will enable anybody with a modchip capable of booting DVD9 media to backup and _play_ DVD9 games such as Gran Turismo 4.
Does this mean that all I have to do to burn GT4 is rip the game using DVD Decrypter, then patch the iso with your patcher, then burn it to a dual layer disc and I can play it with my Swap Magic????

Firstly, it's not my patcher, it's team toxics' :)
I don't think swap magic can boot DVD9 games so I doubt it would work. Use my DVD5 Rip Tool and burn to a single layer disk.

@Sonix. It's NTSC for me. I'm interested because I want to have another look at the checks. Also, I'm wondering what method you used to decrypt the tables (Obviously I don't want to breach any trade secrets or anything like that). I'm sure that my level of expertise is way below that of yours, but ia little understanding of what you did might help to understand future games that use this sort of encrypted munge file.
Thanks in advance.

Just thought I'd paste this in this thread too for the newbies. It's already on the other GT4 thread but a few might appreciate it here too. It's the simple instructions on rebuilding after using sonix' tool.
Quote: You need to have the following files in your GT4 folder.
1. SYSTEM.CNF (.CNF extension might not show)
2. SCUS_973.28
3. CORE.GT4
4. IOPRP300.IMG
5. IRX (Folder)
6. NET (Folder)
7. EPSON (Folder)
5. GT4.VOL
6. GT4L1.VOL
After running sonix' tool, you'll have a GT4L1.VOL_OLD file as well, which you don't need.
You need CDVDGEN and IML2ISO available from http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=mis.html (Also On my site at http://fileforum.mywebhut.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10 look for "rkit.zip")).
Open CDVDGEN Select "New Project" and then "DVD Master Disk" (The Middle one). You'll now see three buttons at the top of the window, "Volume", "Directory" and "Layout". Click on the "Volume" button. Fill in the "Disk Name" Field with "SCUS" and "97328", and change the "License Area" to "America" (For PAL version, it's "SCES" and "51719" and the area is "Europe"). Also change the "Volume" field to "GRANTURISMO4". You don't need to fill in any of the other fields (Well I didn't anyway). Next click on the "Directory" button. Using your gt4 folder drag the files IN THE ORDER ABOVE from the folder in to the main window of CDVDGEN. When you've done that, click on "File" and "Export IML File". Save the file in your GT4 folder as GT4.IML and close CDVDGEN (You don't need to save anything else). That's the hard part done.
Open IML2ISO and browse to the IML file you just made and click "Start". Then put the kettle on, because it does take a few minutes to compile. Once it's finished you can close IML2ISO.
That's it! just burn the GT4.ISO with your fave burning proggy (I still prefer DVD Decrypter).
My opinions come with no warranty whatsoever, but are totally open-source, so you can reverse engineer or decompile them as you see fit. All other rights reserved.

Is there some direct link anywhere? :(
If you can beat me in less than 10 minutes, you'll be able to escape in time.

Sonix is a God. Thats awesome. Has anyone fully tested this yet? Do you still need the save file in the garage and is it both Arcade and Simulation modes? I'm about to give it a try.

I am having problems, after I get loads the save data it goes to a blank screen and freezes, I have the USA version if that matters, also when I used the 1.01 ripkit I never got the message telling me to delete the movie files.
