I can maybe help with downsampling some of the vids to make a full version of the game and maybe supply a guide.I'm still trying to go a manual route at the moment, but your tool is awesome Sonix. It freezes up on me,because I am a NTSC user but it wasn't really intended for the NTSC version. The PAL region should work, but NTSC still contains bugs in it.I can tell TMPGEnc is needed for downsampling and PSSPlex. If you use this one program called CubeMediaPlayer2 you can decrease the file by half, but you still have to convert the file back to a .m2v mpeg2 extension using TMPGenc(reason why I normally come up with a .AVI file for my movies when using CubeMediaPlayer2).I tried the tool out,and I am only coming up with 17MB on my newly created file, and then the old .VOL file is the same size as it was.The message that comes up that says OK works after it rebuilds the header, but then I am missing the folder with the video files to downsample and relink back into the .VOL file or the message like yzzerdd is talking about. After I hit the OK button it just stops, but I am sure it works for PAL users. It still has a couple bugs in it for NTSC,but for PAL it should work perfectly.I think the NTSC version might have a different encryption than the PAL version.I am just taking a guess on this though,it might be different for other NTSC users. It could just be me and yzzerdd that are having these issues with the NTSC version.I used the latest build v1.01 and am getting the occuring problems.Still though big thanks for supplying the tool Sonix, even though it might not work for me or a couple others atleast someone besides some of us will have the priveledge of backing it up and playing it.I managed to come up with this limit of my GT4L1.VOL after ripping and downsampling three vids from it for NTSC manually at the moment 1.93Gig.The rest of the videos I am still guessing are probably relinked to the GT4.VOL file on the NTSC version, because I can only view the rest of the videos without sound just picture.I haven't made that much progress on the GT4.VOL at the moment, but I am thinking downsampling three vids is not enough space to get the game to work for Swap Magic as it still exceeds the TOC limit. It would average around 4.425Gig I think if I rebuild it,maybe even a little more.I did manage to come up with another approach dealing with the audio on the GT4.VOL by using MFAudio to change the frequency by half cutting the audio half the size of the original, only thing that sucks about doing it manually is dealing with the time.It takes a long time to do it manually, but I am sure it would work.I rescanned the GT4L1.VOL file that I ripped and came up with the exact 66 pss files.I input each file I downsampled back into the munge at the exact locations I ripped out.I plan on doing the same thing with the GT4.VOL file and the audio to decrease the size more for Swap Magic.Actually it isn't so bad I guess,I do need something to do to keep me occupied. Thanks again Sonix for supplying the tool even though it didn't work for me it doesn't mean that I don't appreciate it bro,it should work for alot of PAL users not really sure about NTSC.

Not sure why it isn't working for you L-Burna, I've had lots of confirmations that the tool works fine on NTSC also.

Have you tried downloading the tool again? When I initially uploaded v1.01 of the tool I soon realised that I'd forgot to re-initialise some parts of the code I had disabled for testing - it sounds as though you have this version. I have since uploaded the correct v1.01 which is working fine on both PAL and NTSC versions.

Can this be applied to files from an ISO that has had the dual layer patch applied on it? i let my friend borrow my GT4 original so i only have an ISO on my PC but its been dual layer patched. Would this cause any problems?

My apologies Sonix,I was still using the last release like you mentioned and it works fine now.I kept redownloading that last release and it just kept freezing on me,yeah it was my fault.I deleted what was in the text document for the PAL version and it seems to run fine now 1.45Gig in size for my GT4L1.VOL newly created file.I managed to go over the limit 1.25Gig in size like sui-cyco did.I did look at the vids that where extracted, and I was actually suprised to see this one file in there that had an extension with the name ICIC or something like that.I honestly have no clue what this file is or how you found it bro.My next approach is messing with the vids in the game downsampling, looks tricky still. When I look at them only three vids have audio connected to them you can tell by the size differences of the vids one is 400MB in size another is 200MB in size and the last one is 100MB in size sorry I forgot the names of them, the rest I am still thinking are relinked to the GT4.VOL file where all the audio is.For some reason the videos besides the three that have audio linked into them have no playtime, they just keep playing for as long as you let it play with no sound just picture.I am guessing they are also part of the Arcade mode, because recently when I was testing the game out it tends to lag a little bit for me when I switch to different courses.Nothing big or major to be honest, but maybe downsampling could fix this issue with the vids.I can create a blank sound file and implement it back into the vids that have no audio, but I am not sure if that would work. They might have some code inside of them that is telling them to keep playing.I did look at all the audio files that where located on the GT4.VOL and have the locations and sizes for each file.If you change the frequency of the files you can cut the files in half. This is just an idea on my part not really sure if it would work or not.I think if we tampered with the vids inside the GT4L1.VOL file besides the three vids that have audio already in them it might not work.I did manage to pin point each audio file in the GT4.VOL with the description of each file has this text at the header SShd.All the audio in the GT4.VOL comes out to around 157 in .ss2 files and the size averages out to 1.16Gig in size so we could shrink 1.16Gig pretty easy with audio. This was my plan for awhile to downsample the three vids that are located on the GT4L1.VOL file, and leave the rest of the files alone. It should bring the GT4L1.VOL to around 1.93Gig in size, not sure if the tool can handle that much or not but worth a shot to try out. Then cut the sound files frequencies by half leaving around another 400MB we can strip out of the .VOL file, and relink back into the GT4.VOL file.It still sounds complicated to make a full rip without leaving anything out,but that was my plan still sounds rough. After looking at the vids it would be hard to downsample them, alot of them have no sound linked in them.Much respect Sonix the tool works like a charm, and I greatly appreciate it.I can't wait to see Apache3 when you finish working on that program bro.I don't know about anyone else, but I use the Apache programs alot.Big Thanks to you Sonix ;) I was wondering when this day would come, and now that it has I really don't know what to say.

Nevermind Ps2asker made a guide for downsampling the vids,I guess that makes it complete.I guess you can mess with the other vids, without it messing up.

How do I get the dvd rom drive to read the second layer? I have all the files listed except GT4L1.VOL. I used dvd decrytor and it made an image at a little over 5gb. I used isobuster to extract to image and it made an image at around 2.49 and no GT4L1.VOL showed up.

Try out Apache2 it works pretty good on extracting the files,IsoBuster is pretty good also but will probably take longer.Once you get Apache2 you can find it off of http://www.backuptools.co.uk or http://www.alucard.cc either one I think will have it.Open up Apache2 and select your ISO file you made with DvdDecrypter. It will display the first layer of the game which will end with GT4.VOL file at the bottom. The second layer will have only one file which is the GT4L1.VOL file.Extract the GT4.VOL file and all the other files located on the first layer to a folder on your desktop. Then extract the file located on the second layer GT4L1.VOL into the same folder that is located on your desktop. One you have finished extracting all the files, just put Sonix tool in the folder.Open up his tool and continue on from there, and it should work perfectly.I hope this helps you out,I would use Apache2 instead it is alot easier to use for extracting files.

The tool is capable of rebuilding the vol file to it's original size (in fact it could build a vol file to about the 4gig limit without problem). The only reason I mentioned 1.25Gig in the readme.txt was because that was the approximate safe limit for the final dvd to be around 4.3Gig on the PAL version - it's not an actual limit of the tool ;)

the 400mb file is the ending file on NTSC,the 100mb is pv file and i dont recall a 200mb file.but seeing as though the ending file is probably the movie after you beat the game,is there a program that will let you view this file?some kind of media player?or do you think someone can downsample(whatever that is?)the videos to get all files to fit onto a DVD5?

Yeah the opening_us.pss 232MB,ending_us.pss 473MB,and the pv.pss 115MB vids all have the audio linked to them.Nice Sonix glad to hear that about the tool man,no size limit restriction.Look check out the guide that Ps2asker made alright sui-cyco http://rapidshare.de/files/3269333/Gran_Turismo_4_DVD5_Tutorial.z... .It should tell you how to downsample the vids,I just wasn't sure if the vids besides the three that had audio linked in them could be downsampled and placed back into the tool.I think you can find a good PSS media player at http://www.alucard.cc or try this one program out http://www.cubemediaplayer.com .They both should be able to play all the vids.Hey Sonix can I ask you something, what is the IPIC file.I don't have no clue what it really is or how you came up with it bro.

Media player classic also plays these files too as it has mpeg2 built in. Plays quicker on my PC too.

Not sure what the file is for m8, I didn't really come up with it either....it's just one of the files listed in the decrypted table.

A question for you sonix... Is it possible for us mere mortals to decrypt/uncomress the tables manually and if so what program/s would be used to do it?

No, you couldn't really do it manually. You would, at the least, require some programming knowledge to write a custom tool for the job.

I started to build downsampled version but I got stuck to the very last part of the procedure: I started to convert .iml to .iso with IML-2-DVD v1.01, but it jammed to 99% stealing whole processor's capacity. It made an .iso anyway but I thought that it might be corrupted, so I cooked new .iso from separate files manually using DOS window and copy /b. Now burning, let's see...

Game booted like a charm but crashed after memory card popups, I don't know what went wrong but I'm not definitely gonna try another time. Maybe it's caused by using Toxic patched version as source.

Hey Sonix is it possible by using a Hex editor,I don't really see it used very often but with the aid of other programs built by programmers is it possible.I know programming definately helps out alot, and building a program to rip games is not a project for a novice.I have to agree with you,if you can code it will help out alot in time consumption.I honestly don't have the experience in building apps for ripping PS2 games, but with great coders like yourself you have given us alot of support with the tools you provide. When you said programming has to be involved with this game I doubt myself of even coming near to anything that looks like what you created.I am still in the learning stages, figuring out how to decypher the whole file is probably not possible without indepth programming skills,as you mentioned but maybe to a certain extent right.Like pin pointing out a couple files that are noticable like the media in the game. When you said writing a custom tool for the job I have a feeling that is the relinking stage for the munge types am I right.Relinking certain file types back into the munge structure.I did notice on the first page of this thread somebody mentiond the toxic's patcher, was this integrated in the tool for the patching process as well or did you actually patch certain checks that where located inside of the .VOL files or both.I can create a patch from toxic's patcher for the IOPRP300.IMG file, but I am unaware of finding the checks if any inside the munge files without deeply looking through the whole file.Sorry for so many questions asked,it is really just a learning stage for me.Still learning as much as I can any possible way there is,and am going to take alot of interest in coding in Delphi as soon as possible.I was learning VB gradually, but nothing spectacular.Like you said though programming isn't something you can pick up in a day or so,you have to learn it on your own time pace by studying it or either taught by someone or a very good teacher.Simpsim1 you have some experience in programming right, there are a couple source codes posted on http://www.alucard.cc that you could take a look at might help you out man.I even think the most experience coders can never learn enough, programming changes all the time.Sonix thanks for any help you have given to us all,and a even big thanks for sticking around here for awhile.

Hey romero try this patch out that I made alright, should patch the image back to it's original state. You can get it here http://rapidshare.de/files/3281779/IOPRP300IMG.rar.html not tested though,so couldn't really say if it will work or not.It is for the NTSC version only, might help you if not sorry alright.

Moved over to this thread now as the old one is somewhat redundant.

@L-Burna. I did start with Delphi a bit but have not really had the time to get into it much. Shame though because it wasn't that hard to pick up. I'm fairly competent in VB and I have a rather limited knowledge of Visual C++. I'll have to have a look at some of the sources you mentioned. Obviously this project is now well and truly sorted, but any knowledge I can gain will doubtless help towards any future projects.

@Romero, I've just done a rip from a copy I had with a Toxic patch on it just to see and I'm happy to report that it works as well as the others. I think the problem might lie in the IML program you are using. Also consider using IML2ISO which can be found at http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=mis.html This works pretty much the same. Just browse to your .iml file and click start.

I originally followed the instructions in the rip guide and deleted the files, but although the game loaded, it crashed as it accessed the memory card. I am in the same situation as romero in that my original is borrowed out and I only have the Toxic patched backup to hand.

Anyway, I downloaded ps2askers gt4 guide to downsampling the videos. Followed it exactly. But I get an iso size of 4.70GB which is way to big to burn to a DVD5 disc still.

Where have I gone wrong? Should I wait for my orginal disc or continue trying with my patched copy?
