These are excellent.

I use them all the time w/o any problems. The discs from Japan are the best.

i have a few of the MIJ maxells as well, in both DVD-R and DVD+R format, they are pretty good, while i would recommend my TYs over the maxells, they are not bad media to say the very least~ :)

the ones i use w/ very few errors/problems are : MXL RG03....and MAXELL..002 coding respectively (dvd-r and dvd+r)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

I also burn a ton of maxell media. Taiyo yuden also makes some of their -4x media. I didn't know which speed you got,but the japanese ones are very good.
Even their made in taiwan discs are very good. These will code as ritek-g05/g04/and some reports of cmags!

Their plus format are also sweet.Hitachi on their +8x japanese.
Their taiwanese also very good, Ritek-r03 and ricohjpn-01. Not 1 complaint from either of formats/speed rating/or manufacturer from my benq's.

The best part about maxell,All these codes that Myself and Kivory666 posted, are on the majority of all their media. It's a lot safer if you want to try the maxell 50 pack,25,20,15,10,packs. Use caution of the smaller 3 or 5 packs-that are made in taiwan.Reports of cmags on them are surfacing on their dash format,so far on the smaller packs.

I use Maxell exclusively because I can get them at my local Wal-Mart.I look for the ones Made in Japan but got a spindle "Made in Taiwan" and they worked well once I stopped burning them at 8x and dropped back to 4x. I started out using Verbatim but they are hard to find in retail locations. One of these days I'm gonna jump up there with the big boys and get some TYs.

hey btitus- just a thought but ever considered buying online - I like WallY World too for convienience & occasionally price on media ! but I think you could do better price & media variety wise online . ( NEWEGG.COM _SUPERMEDIASTORE.COM- MERITLINE.COM ) Ect. all are online retailers that have variety & quality media at reasonable prices . Additionally there is SHOP4TECH.COM who has free shipping but I have'nt really dealt with them one way or another. The other online retailers either have free shipping or low prices on shipping cost depending on quantity and whats ordered. I have bought media @ wallyworld mainly CDR's but I just bought a three pack of MAXELL High Grade Video DVD+R 8X media - I bought them for a few reasons - A. I had'nt tried maxell yet in DVD media . B. Made in japan (A good thing as Martha Stewart saya!) C. They have hard coat protection! Everybodies been talking about the new VERBATIMS that are called VideoGuard Protection and are somewhat similar and possibly better ! I have'nt used but one of the maxell's so far 8x and burned @ 8x max. would'nt overspeed but appeared to burn okay ! As to if the hardcoat protection on the maxell's I try not to abuse my media but then accidents happen don't they ! So btitus- Give it some thought buy what you want when you want ! but consider online if you use lots of media. Again this is my opinion and opinions are like beelybuttons we all got 'em ! To btitus- & all the afterdawn.com gang ! PEACE & happy BURNING _CIAO!!!

To BIGTOXY69-I am considering making a purchase next week from Supermediastore. I want to try some TYs. I was disappointed today when neither of the local Wal-Marts had Made in Japan Maxell's. I had to settle for Made in Taiwan. Just for good measure I went to Circuit City to see if they had any deals on Verbatim. They had packs of five for 2.99 so I grabbed the last four. I'll keep the Maxell's but will burn them at 4x.

Hello btitus, Those taiwanese maxell's are still very good, especially the 8x. They are coded as ritek-g05 on -8x and ritek-r03 on the +8x.

BTW: The 100 pack spindles of Office Depot's 8x brand name media is also coding out as ritek-g05 and ritek-r03.
$28.00 for them! I just picked up 1 spindle and they did code as ritek-r03,same as the maxell taiwanese.
20 for 20 so far on them this week.5 of them were on the fly!

Saugmon, thank you. I used DVD Indentifier on the MIT Maxells and they did code as Ritek-r03. I burned one at 8x with no problems at all. I'll be checking for some good sales come Sunday. Thank you to everyone for their great advice and insight. I love this site and it's the only site I go to EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!! (Several times a day)

btitus- Verbatims are really good so you done good! on those. Not trying to push you on any one company but if you are interested in Taiyo Yudens - BESTBuy has FUJI media DVD+R & DVD-R and they put them onsale almost every other week! and if you can find the FUJI's rhat say Made in japan those are Taiyo Yudens ! and you can often find them onsale @ bestbuy for prices that are the same or less that Taiyo Yuden media bought online! also Sony media Is sometimes Taiyo Yuden (Again if Made in japan)) just something to think about . Anyway My friend enjoy your verbatims and good luck and smooth sailing with your burning issued! Peace & happy burning!

BIGTOXY69- Thanks for the insight. I'll have to check Bestbuy's website tomorrow morning to see what they have on sale. The closest one to me is an hour away but that would be worth the drive. I'm going to check back with Circuit City today to see if they put some more of the Verbatims on the shelves. They also had 25 pack spindles of the "movie type" (don't know actual name) discs for $6.99. They are the ones that are shaped like movie reels. Do you (or anyone else out there) have a testimonial about experiences with those discs? ;o)

I use the movie reel Verbatims, and they are great. Have tested out well and play on all my standalone. I just bought the last 6.99 spindle at my Circuit City in +R and then booktyped and got great playback.

btitus- I think the movie reel looking dvd are VERBATIMS I purchased five pack at WALlyWorld awhile back they were the DVD+R 's but I belive they are available DVD-R as well! And they wer excellent ! I also understand you living in a outlying area the nearest BESTBUT to me is 30 miles way but lucky for me it's a straight shot down the interstate 10 HWY. They may or may not be on sale this week but BestBuy also puts VERBATIMS onsale regular too so if not one then another or wait a week or two and they'll Be back with the FUji's !I was at the nearest CIRCUIT CITY thursday and it's about 30ish miles away from me also and the only real deal they had on DVD was an off Brand and I found their selection in the Baton Rouge la. store to be somewhat limited compared to BESTBUY ! that being said I've bought media from cicuit city as well when it was a recognizabble brand & also on sale cheap!. SO btitus good luck & check the sale papers tommorow - or go online & check the websites like COMPUSA.com /BESTBUY.COM /OFFICEDEPOT.COM /Circuit CITY.COM ect. and they will have the sales online @ thewebsites as well! You may want to check the sales at The Walmart! and or Target TOO! As they occassional put good Media onsale ! TARGET is very good on Rainchecks! I have had expierience with them in that and it was positive! . Again my friend good luck ! Peace & happy Burning!

BIGTOXY69-I knew that they were verbatim and were more than likely good quality. I might still go back and get them since they are only 6.99. I bought a total of 50 blanks yesterday and if I get a couple packs of those that will hold me for awhile. I checked Bestbuy's website and they do have a good deal of Verbatim but I don't really want to make that drive. I live in the Charlotte, NC area and it's a straight shot for me as well down I-85 South but if I can find some good deals here at my local Circuit City I'll do that for now. I will keep checking back with Best Buy though because Circuit City can be pretty hit or miss, as you pointed out, in regards to stocking quality media.

@gurnard LOL

i would never leave you to fight alone...hehe, creaky is a good friend of mine and i respect his love for the Verbatims~ :) i also have had very good success with Verbs as well, but i will stand up for the Ritek G05s as i've stated sooo many times in the past, i still rank them #3 on my list of choice media~ i don't recommend them too often ONLY based on the fact that there are members that HAVE had problems with them, i personally have had none, but some disgruntle users of Ritek, based on their own backups, are not too fond of them~

i try to recommend what works for the majority of people in general, throwing in my 2 cents based on PERSONAL experience into the equation~ i have also said that while my Ritek G05s have been outstanding for personal use, i don't consider them on the same level as my Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims; but they are excellent media FOR ME in the past~ :P

it's good that a lot of people are finding the maxell to be good media, my buddy saugmon probably has the most MAXELL experience out of the people i know on here; his recommendations are always accurate.

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

I love Maxell media. I only got a 15 pack but they were great, *sobs in background*. The only useful purchase from Wal-Mart I have ever made. Good Luck :)

Excellent buy. That's the cheapest I have seen the 25 pack spindles. My benq's love the plus format with the mfg code of MCC-002. Now the dash format on my main benq was another story.1 coaster out of the first 2 of a 5 pack. That's the only burn coaster I have this year between both my benq burners!

For that price, pick them all up!

I agree....buy em all. I checked my local Circuit City last week for them....ALL GONE....someone got em before me....I'd use Verbs with my TY's if both of my players liked them, unfortunately my older GE player hates the Verbs....

sorry guys, been working - shocking and just not on! but at least i'm on time and a half overtime.

@gurnard - lmao - i keep waiting for kivory666 to make a spelling mistake and put Verbs before TY for life lol

@BIGTOXY69 - it looks like it's you that's been brainwashed with the Verbs - top work fella - i'm always in need of more backup in the Verb club, to help dissuade ppl from their bad media ways :)

@kivory666 - i see you're keeping the media forums in check, good work fella, just clearing my inbox, gotta start some more work then i'm off to the Nero forums to fight the firmware fight :)

@ creaky

naturally, this forum is where i feel most comfortable~ :) hehe, spelling mistake will NEVER happen~ :) unless someone backs up a truck of Verbs for FREE into my house, then i will reconsider the order of my statement~ :) but until then, it's still TY and Verbs 4 life~ :) in that order..hehe
