I am in current decision to mod my PS2. I have the old style PS2 that came with the Network adapter listed in the subject. The way I think I will do it is get Swap Magic. If I do this, I want a flip top, but don't want to spend the hundreds of dollars on a new PS2 even if I trade in. I still want the ability to use my hard drive but want the ease of putting in a disc from the top. Does anyone know if this could work and if it would be compatible with my swap disc, or should I just bite the bullet and trade in my PS2?

Ok. 1 vote for ps2 slim, 1 vote for flip top. I personally want to cut cost, seeing how I have to pay for a new engine for my car. I may go with the flip top. But where would I start to look? What sites has the PS2 flip top and Swap Disc? I have looked around, but most of them have been found bogus. ( I like to do research before I buy =).

swap magic is neccessary to play any backed up games unless you have a chip... and as far as the slimline goes...it sucks.....thats why sony was recalling it...because of heat issues..... dont get a slimline.... version 4-10 with a flip top......ull do just fine....

I don't know about the laser part, but a mod chip sounds like a good idea. I don't know much about soldering, so it would prolly cost a crap load to get it soldered, so a no-solder would do me just fine. I'm skeptical about the swapdisc anyway. I had a swap disc for PS1, but it could't play multi-disc games like Metal Gear Solid. That is my only worry. So someone give me some modchips to buy and where to buy them that doesn't scam. It helps greatly. Thanks.

http://www.xmodd.com will have what you need.
That is where i bought my Premodded PSTwo Slim With DMS4 Pro chaip and Summone Laser fix. Mine works great.
But if you live in a house without air Conditioning then you will need to put a fan up and point it directly at the PSTwo unit to keep it cooler so games load correctly.
The premodded systems cost $265 plus shipping but then you will be set. And the DMS4 Pro will play DVD9 (dual layer) back ups too and has support to load games from a hard drive, and you can use cheat discs like AR Max.
It will come with the laser fix, and the ToxicOS you need for the DMS4 Pro chip already installed.

ok let me ask you this.....you get a mod chi and the chip goes out...which has been known to happen a lot, you have to buy a new PS2, as where a flip top, something goes out, you stick the old top back on and send it to sony for repair, or get another one for what 100 bucks and stick your top right back on the new one, compared to a new pre-modded one for 300.... second non-solder chips blow out your chipsets on the board, and fry capacitors..... read around, youll see more people then none will tell you to go with the flip top for a reason...

but there still is the fact of reaching the second disc... I enjoy my final fantasy like a geeky little nerd... and my devil may cry. Do people know the cause of the chips burning out? Anything that thermal paste and a better cooling unit can't handle?
But thanks for the input... Didn't think about chips burning out.

Reaching the second disc. For instance. Playing a PSOne Metal Gear Solid. It has 2 discs... you play the first disc. you reach the second disc, it says insert second disc. Same thing for Parasite Eve. You get to the second disc and theres no save point or anything. I'm not sure because I've never played dual disc PS2 games, but Devil May Cry 2 has 2 discs. And you can't put a burned disc in. It won't read.
I also developed another question. When you burn PS2 games, is the online capability still there? Im not thinking it would be for a modchip, but for instance say I burn Socom 3. The online feature. Is it still available?
I just want to apologize for all the questions but I don't evnjoy buying something and something going wrong with it.

ive played double disc games before...... look man im telling you the flip top is your wway to go..... ive had mine for over a year and play it all the time.....i have never had a problem with any of my games, or the ps2...in this year, ive watched at least 6 of my friends and countless people on forums and so forth, have there chips go out, and there stuck with nothing..... they switched to the flip top and have had no prblems since.....they prefer the flip top to the chip now big time.....

http://www.playstationmodchip.com, go there..its where i bought my and also where i bought my hdd as well as hdadvance. Right now they have the whole set, flip top plus the swap magic 3.6 for ps2 v.4-10 for just $$$27.87. All you have to do is add in alil shipping charges and you can get yours for less than 40 bucks? WEll, good luck and i would preferred a swap magic over mod chip. Modchip is sure can be easy and faster once u got itn solder in but like a few have mentions, Burn out problems, so take my word, swap magic will last you longer. WEll, again good luck!

u have made a wise choice..... just make sure you order the right model flip top based on the SCPH number on the back of your PS2....any website you order from should have a list of those number and the corresponding version of the flip top for you... ENJOY!!!!
