Hi all
I have a Toshiba RSTX-60 And I cannot edit commercials out on the unit itself.
I would like to burn a dvd on the tivo unit. The unit supports DVD-R and DVD+R, DVD-RW. I would like to bring the disk over to my pc use authoring software to cut out commercials and create chapters. ect. and watch it on my tivo box.

Please help both the computer and tivo seem to support the same dvd formats. The problem is once I create the dvd on the tivo will the compuer recognize the disk and allow me to edit it and vise versa.

the dvd burners I have on my Dell Xgen 4 are as follows
HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B
Philips DVD+RW DVD8631

Please help I really need a sofware solution to my problem.

HI
I have been tinkering with this puzzle. So far I have achieved a partial solution. My Dell came with burning software but not authoring software.Anyway I was able to achieve the following

My dvd on my computer and tivo recognize DVD-R. With that beint said.
I recorded a show from my tivo took the disk out and played it in my computer. Everthing ok so far.

I then editied it created chapters ectra ectra. saved it to disk and tried it on my tivo and it does not recognize the disk.

Oh one more thing. Other stand alone dvds do recognize the created disk.

I dont understand two things
why doesn't tivo recognize the disk even if it is a DVD-R?
Am I saving it incorrectly?

Also.. a possible solution ..

My tivo has networking capabilities -- limited -- . It also supports USB2 I think. If I used a USB cable would the computer not see the tivo as an "External" hard drive. With that being said I could save the edited copy back to the tivo's hard drive.

This is a long winded solution but it will allow me to play the disk in the tivo unit
However

IS THER ANY AUTHORING SOFTWARE THAT IS TOTALLY FREEWARE?
if you had to buy software which one would you get that does the job and is reasonable to cut commercials out.

hi

not entirly sure on what apps used what you did? but from what you say it all worked till you put chapters in and cut stuff out?

ok what app was that? was it too a RW disc instead of -+r ?

did you finalize the disc? could be lots of things...

this tivo is it separate to the pc and fite on yout tv like a recorder as such?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.
