Hello to All. I am new to this recording and burning stuff so please bear with me.
I am record movies from Direct TV and burning them with my DVD recorder as a master, transfering them to my computer and editing with TMPEG to create my main master disk. Everything has been going great with no problems until I tried to make a copy of "Troy". The origional disk plays fine on both player and computer as well as the movie saved on the hard disk. Every attempt to burn the movie on my computer has a stutter in a one-on-one fight scene toward the end of the movie. I am using named brand disks, both + and -, different burn speeds and different types of transfers (TMPEG, Creator 7, Drag and drop, Etc)

Every movie I have transfered except this one has gone great with no problem. What evil demon resides within this movie and can I have any hope of burning this movie?

Again hello to all, I hope that this is the start of a great friendship.

hello olddog31 welcome to ad first of all you say you are using name-brand media what name brand ?? even crap has a name
if this stutter is happening at the extreme end of the movie try changing your file size to around 4300 so as to avoid burning to close to the edge this is a tender spot w/ questionable media.

Sorry about that. I am using Imation, TDK and Memorex 4.7 Gig disks and the movie is about 3 Gigs. I am not comming anywhere near the outer edge of the disk. The DVD player/recorder is a Lite-On 5005 and the burner is a Lite-on 1673. No other movies with action show this problem.

uh-ohhh throw the memorex away banish it from your kingdom kind of a bad word around here this might just be the evil daemon of which you referred.
but my only other thought of this situation is that somewhere during the transfer from the direct tv to storage here is a link that may be aable to correct any corrupt files hey worth the try .

actually, change media~ all 3 of those brands have the DREADED CMC MAG crap as manufacturers, until you run a dvdinfopro media ID scan...i can't tell you for sure, but i am betting my money that the stuttering is due to poor quality media~ :)

i recommend Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim, definitely sounds like a media issue to me~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Very nice to meet both of you and thank you for the information. I will try and get the dvdinfo tool to check my stuff. If I were to order dvd blanks from a source (newegg is my primary vendor) then how can I specify or establish that the media is not cmc.

certain brands are known to frequently use cmc or cheaper manuf. just try and stick to ty's or ritek's I will try to find the site but I once saw them running dvd info pro on every thing they sold

here is a link where several members tell there media's mid you might use this as a guideline when choosing just remember some brand's use several manuf (notice the memorex-r 2x's not a recomendation just a point of interest stay away from memorex) so if it looks to good to be true....

www.supermediastore.com has Taiyo Yudens (genuine too, not fakes) for a good price...just look under the Taiyo Yuden media tab and take your pick~ i have MANY MANY MANY of the 4x DVD-R TYGO1s and they are great and the cheapest of the bunch...

from newegg, you could go with the Verbatims...

i haven't bought Riteks in a LONG time, so i don't know where to recommend in that regards...

Maxells can be bought locally, office depot ALWAYS has frequent sales for Maxell media...i prefer the MADE IN JAPANS...personal choice once again

check my sig. for GOOD media coding...but, with Taiyo Yudens (TYs), make sure they are AUTHENTIC and you purchase them from a reputable vendor...stay away from shop4tech.com as i have been scammed with FAKE TYs from them in the past, i will NEVER buy from them again.~

good luck

Thanks for the info. I noticed that Best Buy is having a sale on Verbatim's, a 25 pack of +R and -r for $10.00. How can I tell the Good from the bad on a vendor part number. Even the web site does not specify MCC or not. Also, New Egg has several types of disks but no mention of MCC or CMC.

the Verbs from Bestbuy are a GOOD bet~ i have used the 16x DVD+R format, not that many, but enough to see the good quality of them. :) that price can't be beat too~ i haven't tried the DVD-R 16x format yet, as im a DVD+R person.. :)

the higher speed Verbatims are pretty much ALL made in taiwan...and are MCC coded, with the exception of the NEW verbatims that someone bought called "pearl white" that are CMC MAGs...just stay away from those...it will be right on the packaging. :)

good luck
