the sony DVD+R made in taiwans are not as good as the Taiyo Yuden made ones...while they may work out well for you and your setup, i personally only use the TY (made in japan) ones... :)
many members on here really like the sony media, regardless of where it's made...the sony media coding is pretty good, i have only used a FEW w/ the sony coding, but they were decent. not same level as the TY manufactured ones, but decent...give it a try, you personally MIGHT or MIGHT NOT like them...in the end, it's your money and your decision~ good luck :)

Personally, I'd take em back and ask someone at customer service to check their restock for ones Made In Japan. Another route you could go is to exchange them for the FUJI 8x+R's that are on sale $9.99/25 pack...MADE IN JAPAN ones. I think the FUJI/Taiwans are Prodisc...I'd stay away from those. I picked up one of the FUJI MIJ spindles to check out. They are Taiyo Yudens...but the Disc Quality Scan I ran were not as good as the Sony's. More PI failures. Either way you go I'd only settle for MIJ. Good luck!

we all start somewhere...Taiyo Yuden media has been a proven winner for me...that's why i usually ONLY recommend TY and Verbs :) with occasional other brands if available...if you do decide to go with the made in japan TYs, you will NOT be disappointed :)

to each their own~ :) if the MIT or MIJ works for you all, then who is to argue with your OWN preferences? i only recommend what works for ME, personally~ but, im GLAD to hear that all your choices of media have been working good for you guys~ :)
since you went to best buy and got the DVD+R MIJ~ those SHOULD be YUDEN000T02 coding when run through a dvdinfopro (media code ID program)...those are GENUINE Taiyo Yuden and i will suggest them to ANYONE EVERYDAY, ANYDAY, and so forth...i have had countless flawless burns, as i personally prefer DVD+R media booktyped to dvd-rom for all around compatibility~ :)
anyways, glad to hear you other guys are happy with your choice of format and your choice of media...good luck to you all~

Now when making a backup where do I look to make the selection to booktype it to DVD-ROM?? Is it a automatic thing? I use CloneDVD2, Shrink and Decrypter.
Also when I got home and opened up the SOny Media. You know it felt very solid and well made. I can tell why the MIJ are recommended.

booktyping is NOT automatic...using those programs mentioned, you might be able to set it with DVD Decrypter in the options tab...but, it really depends on what type of burner you have...some manufacturers do NOT allow this feature with official firmware (ie. pioneer drives), but can enable it using hacked firmware. :)
if your manufacturer is listed in dvd decrypters' drive list, you could change booktype there, if not, then, using those programs you might need to find a separate utility to do so...
i agree with you in the fact that sometimes a media can feel "solid" this is true with ALL my TY media...that's why i recommend them so highly~ good luck to you~

??? Went to Best Buy? yesterday and bought 2 50 packs of Sony? discs (+R, 8X) made in Japan coded Yuden000-T02. ? Just for kicks, since they had the made in Japan FujiFilm? discs, I bought a 25 pack of them also. They also coded as Yuden000-T02. The Sony?/Yudens record and play just fine on all of my machines. Now the FujiFilm?/Yudens, they're a different story. My computer's MP5240A Ricoh? drive will record on them but won't recognize them as having been recorded on when I try to play them back. The only machine that I have that'll even recognize them is the older one of my LiteOn? set-top recorders. My other set-top recorder doesn't like them at all, refusing to read or record on them. My older set-top recorder will record just fine on them and I get 100% playability from them using it as my burner. Also, both of my set-top recorders have the same firmware and my Ricoh? has been flashed with the latest firmware. No more FujiFilm? discs for this guy, I'll stick with the Sony?, Verbatim? and Maxell? media ???

I'm staying away from the FUJI MIJ as well as there seems to be more PI failures than the SONY MIJ's. Could be a bad spindle I got, so I'll probably try 1 more, but why no go with the SONY's at the same price. They both code out to YUDEN000 T02 so I don't understand why there would be a noticable difference,,,maybe something in the backend during branding??? Anyone else run quality test on the 2 medias....posted results would be helpful.....

The Sony? 8X +R discs that I purchased at BestBuy? are marked 1X-8X, but inside the label on the made in Taiwan discs, it is marked burn speeds up to 12X. They will burn at 16X if I set my burn speed at 'max'. This is true for both the made in Japan and Taiwan discs. I like to slow 'em down to 4X and not burn past the 4.2GB mark. Just paranoid I guess.
