Author DVD with Ifo Edit

For endless hours i have been trying to figure out how to edit out a section of a DVD and still leave the menus in tact so that i can still shrink with DVD Shrink and not have to compress as much and increase the overall quality of my DVD. i have encountered some DVD's with both the widescreen and full screen on the the same dvd, others with the director's comments, and some episodes DVD's in which there may be "behind the scenes" footage i do not ever want to watch but i would like to maintain the playback integrity of the DVD by keeping the menus and at the same time increase quality by removing this section and not having to compress as much.
i have read the guide for Ifo Edit but i cant seem to figure it out or get it to work. i know that there are VTS, VTS_TTN, and VOB's and for the most part i know which ones refer to the section of the DVD i do not want but i cant figure out how to "eDIT it out". After some time i got it to not show up in DVD shrink but the compression was the same, it was there but removed from playback. which is half way right, in other words the quality of my DVD was still the same as if it was a part of playback.
i hope someone out there can understand my ramblings and point me in the right direction. Worst case please direct me to a simplified Ifo Edit guide or a better way of doing it with another software.
