AR Max Not Detecting my Flash Card

I just bought an AR Max that includes the 8MB memory card, from Toys'R Us for $20 and the thing won't detect my Sandisk Cruzer mini 256MB flash card. Does anyone know if the AR Max is not compatible with my flash card or could it be that there is a problem with my ps2. My ps2 is the oldest model, SCPH-30001. Not sure if that is a problem either. I'm trying to transfer football rosters from my pc to my memory card. If anyone knows anything about the AR Max, I'd appreciate the info.
