Ritek has gone down the drain. I was just wondering if anyone tried the fortis brand? the 8x dvd-r, dvd+rw or the dual layers? If so, can you give me a feed back on what you think of them?

if you do not think so highly of ritek, you are doing yourself an even greater disfavor by using the "fortis" brand...it's even lower quality than the riteks you speak so lowly of...

The Fortis? 8X -R discs are TYG02 while the 8X +R are Sony-D11-000. Both are good stuff.

are they GENUINE TYG02s? that is the REAL question there...i have a whole bunch of FAKE TYG02s, so i can personally attest to the POOR quality of them if they are in fact FAKE...but, if they are AUTHENTIC, then...yes, i can agree with you there. the sony coded media has been decent, but, personally, has not been great for me.

Yeah, if it's the real deal then they're good. I suppose a lot has to do with who is selling them. I think that the FujiFilm? Yudens are fake even though I bought them from BestBuy?. So far, 8/15 have been coasters while the Sony? Yudens are a perfect 30/30. And as far as the Sony? coded discs .. as long as they're real, Sony? media is top notch. I'm not a TY fan, give me Verbs, Maxell? and Sony? coded Sony? discs ...

hmm...really? u feel the quality of the fujifilm YUDENS is not even average? that is really peculiar...i have both the fuji/sony YUDEN000T02 coded 8x DVD+R and have found both to be VERY good, on par w/ my unbranded genuine TYs~ :)

that is an interesting point...but, if you are not a "TY guy", i can't argue with you :P everyone has their own personal preferences and what works for THEM on their own individual setups :)

but, about the fortis branded TYGO2s..depends where you get them at, if the original poster will run the media through a dvd identifier AND post up the relevant inner hub coding on them, i will verify them personally w/ my Taiyo Yuden representative @ TY North America~

argueably, for fujifilm to have "fake tys"...for a big company like that, it SHOULD NOT be the case...if they are manufactured in Japan and made by the Taiyo Yuden factory...they shouldn't be fakes. My fake TYs i found to made in taiwan, that is a dead giveaway there. :)
for fuji to be selling "fake tys" would undermine their company so much that it would be detrimental to their marketing/company; unless they decided to cut corners or what not to increase their profit margin, but, i personally don't think they are fakes, perhaps a "bad batch" that slipped through quality control OR quality standards have gone down...that is my opinion of it~ :)

I bought the FujiFilm and the Sony discs at the same time at BestBuy and both brands carry exactly the same ID. They are 8X YUDEN000-T02 and all I use is +R since that's all my Ricoh MP5240A will burn. The Ricoh hates the FujiFilm media and won't even play the ones that it records. My LiteOn set top recorders will record on anything - even Memorex LOL! And the Ricoh records the Sonys just fine.

You are correct, I'm not really a TY person. I bought the Fujis on a whim (only 25 thankfully). I usually get either Sony, Maxell or Verbatim, whichever is on sale when I feel the need to reload.

Something else strange about the Fujis - the edge isn't as smooth as the Sonys (kinda like the older Riteks).

that is VERY interesting...might there be a decline in FUJI's quality control? or are they using cheaper manufacturing processes to gain additional profit? your guess is as good as mine... :)

my take on media is always what is worth recommending to newbies (original poster i don't mean you, i'm talking generally here) - joe normal guy on the street justs wants a media that doesn't cause him to waste his money and be disillioned with the whole dvd burning thing, so i will only recommend what i perceive to be quality media. a lot of you guys are very up on the media codes, what shop sells this that and the other, what sized cakebox reveals the inner codings etc etc (i'm not knocking it by the way); but joe normal guy usually justs wants to get working without the hassle and not waste his money. I can be very much the same also so if a media sounds potentially in need of indepth technical prowess to pick the right ones, then i know what i will pick. As i say i'm not knocking anyone on this or other threads, but i always keep myself and joe normal guy's wallets in mind :)
