keiser180 ,
Welcome to the forum. Have you updated the firmware for the burner so it will recognize the blank media you are using. Site below lists the Dell update or you could try the Dell Website to see if it has the update there. Make sure that you are using the correct update so you do not make that burner toast

Hi there,

Give us more details on what you are using.

What brand of media ?
What's the media ID on them ?

VSO Inspector v1.1 --> http://www.vso-software.fr/
or
DBDInfoPro --> http://www.dvdinfopro

can provide you with the Media ID.

It will also show us the Firmware of your drive.

Latest firmware for your drive is: 10GE

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=1...

Direct File Download --> http://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/R59801.EXE

If you burned with Nero, provide us with a FULL Log.
(Don't forget to remove your serial # from the log, on top)

keiser180,
W/ that drive you have to use + DVD's and not - DVD's to write to. It will read a -DVD and a +DVD. Change the blank media to either 2.4X + or 4X +dvd's. It can use 8X+DVD but it will only burn at the max of 4X

I'll get some DVD+R discs to give it a try, but what I just notice is that when I insert a movie DVD it doesn't recognize it either, do you know why is this happening too? & Thanks for the advise. Good Luck.

keiser180,
Go to Device Manager and find the DVD burner. Right click on it and uninstall the burner. Re-boot and see if Windows reinstalls it properly. If that fails open the case and make sure the cables are connected correctly

We are so used to dual format drives these days, we kinda forget some older drives only do DVD+R media !!!
