Letely I've been having major problems with both programs. It seems that no matter what file I try converting to dvd, be it avi or mpg both programs tell me the wrong video length, like if the video is a 20 minute cartoon the program thinks it's a 60 minute file, or a 90 minute movie the program tells me it's a 480 minute file and won't convert it.
I'm lost as to what to do to fix this problem. I've uninstalled all my codecs, and just did a fresh reinstall of the latest k-lite full codec pack, thinking this would help, but the programs are still giving me wrong file times.
Could anyone suggest a way to fix this so I can get some of these files converted and burned off?

Anyone? I see there are tons of posts about the standard TMPGEnc program, but nothing about these specific ones, or my specific problem.
Again, just tried converting a 20 minute AVI cartoon, and both programs say it's a 60 minute file and won't convert it, tried a 1hr05minute tv show and both programs tell me it's a 430m minute file and won't touch it, and tried a 90minute movie file and both programs are telling me it's another 430 minute file and won't convert it. Any ideas?
I've reinstalled all my TMPGEnc programs, reinstalled the codecs again, and still the poblems persist. No idea what to do.

The avi's are improperly timestamped, probably from a bad join.
If either program gives you a "source range" option, use it to cut the excessive length off the end.

I don't think it's because of a bad join. This is happening to a lot of files. Like theres a tv series from the UK that I've been dl'ing. 8 out of 10 episodes give me that error, all released by the same person. And 2 out of 3 movies are giving me this error. Seems kind of excessive for join errors. Especially when dealing with tons of 20 minute cartoons, which I don't think would have been joined. Plus these are all recent files, from the past month or so, not old stuff.
I did check and the one file, not sure about the others, had shown up in both programs as the correct video length when checked with the editing portion of the program, but the audio showed up as 3 times as long as it should have.

Tmpgenc (all versions) have trouble with audio, especially if it's VBR MP3.
Extract it separately in VirtualDub, and use the .wav as the audio source during encoding, or just add during authoring later.

Looks like I'll have to keep searching for some other alternative fix then. VirtualDub and I don't work well together.

You really should learn VirtualDub. It's one of the most versatile, indispensible video tools of all.

Hi All !!!! Please Help !!!
have spent a good few hours looking all through this forum but cannot find the answer i am looking for :
i have been using TMPGEnc for a good few months now and have had no problems until yesterday ......i went to convert a file for me to watch on my handheld video player and now all of a sudden i cant get the program to do it ......i have tried things i have read here but they are not working either ...
My error message reads something like this: Buffer overrun , vfapi exe , Microsoft visual basic something or other . i have tried downloading the file on this forumn to sort runtime corrupted files but it wont open either , i also tried to use a downloaded japaneese m2v. file but it did nothing either , please help .....whats gone wrong ..............

RebootJim, When it comes to programs that require A) Learning and B)Ripping video files apart my brain completely shuts down. Programs like VirtualDub just aren't for me. Unless a program is all in one, like EO Video or the TMPGEnc programs I just won't use them.
Gonna end up deleting these files that won't convert anyway. It's just not worth the hassle.

Try running DivFix on the source AVI. It could be corrupted.

Just tried Dixfix, with no luck. Either I did it wrong or the file just isn't convertable because the program keeps crashing on the file loading.
Also tried Dr DivX to rencode 2 different files I was having problems with, and the output video, while a different size, still has the same problems. The files can be played fine on the PC using media player or videolan, but when converted to dvd there's sound but no picture. Also tried running them thru dvdsanta 4.0 and the program crashes. Uninstalled 4.0 and now using 3.45. It doesn't crash, but the output file is only sound, no video.
Another thing I've noticed is that since updating to the current klite codec pack the video, when converted to dvd, is all blocky. I think the new release of DivX is screwed. I Never had this problem before, especially since the episodes I'm now trying to convert are all HQ HDTV rips.

It sounds like you've got a total confusion of messed up codecs.
Uninstall all those codec packs, and every other codec you can find.
Open the AVI in GSpot, find out what codec(s) it needs, then download and install ONLY those.

I have been having exactly the same problem. Again only a recent thing.
This is mostly happening when the audio is MP3. But it never used to happen.
I'm using TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator. Sometimes when I dont get any audio using this, I try TMPGEnc XPRESS and it works fine. Other times both programms dont give me any sound.
I personally dont like Virtual Dub either. Always end up with the sound being out of sync with the film.
