Followed Guide for DVD shrink/Nero, still didn't work (log included)

I'm guessing your problem is during the burning process. The main reason I see is listed under the blank disc ID. CMC MAG is known to produce cheap/poor quality blanks, some of the worst on the market. Try switching to a better well know brand like TY, Ritek, or Verbatim. That should help.

this media (blank disc) is the worst type of media you could find very unreliable media try verbatim data life plus or maxell as both of these are affordable reliable media try it out and tell us how it goes good luck

- i certainly wouldn't even even bother trying to figure out which one might be the newest. stick to the other guys' suggestions re getting better media, and avoid that CMC stuff like the plague..

Ok Ok Ok on the media, but I have produced nothing less than 25-30 perfect copies on the same type of media (PHILLIPS DVD-R) and now I tried these new ones which are (MEMOREX DVD-R). I am seriously disgussed because for the longest time I had no problems and now I have started doing things differantly like using the guide that "ReZips" listed. I figured this was the proper way just more steps.
Also I noticed the EERRRMMMM from "ROTARY" is the drive I am using a pile? Would it be the problem and can someone help me update the firmware?

I'm not sure how Phillips media stacks up as far as quality goes. Memorex on the other hand at present time is usually junk. They buy blanks from many different manufacturers and put the Memorex name on them. The problem with this is you never know if you will get a good batch or bad batch of Memorex. Right now they seem to be buying a lot of CMC MAG blanks which are just about the worst blanks on the market. These are the ones you happen to get. Expect a 50% or more failure rate with them. The ones you do get to burn may only last about 6 months before they start to have playback problems. I don't know which guides you are using. Check the guide tab at the page top for the programs you are using. Also both Scubapete and BBmayo have excellent guides on their sites but I don't have the links in front of me. I'll find them and add the links as an edit later.

hi
the ermmm wasnt a stab at your drive being a pile, it was not herad of that drive, but could be good? just errmmm not sure on that drive, as all us on ad see lots of burners and personally i wouldnt know if good or indiffeent.
but on the discs as jerry and others say they suck pants and as jerry says again they may degrade in time (i have been there)

but as i say, there's no pattern in the naming convention in the firmware choices, other than they don't make sense :)

Creaky, Jerry, SMSMike and Rotary let me just I really appreciate all your support and extremely helpful wealth of knowledge and advise to all my stomppers.
I was reading through some of the replies and did a little research or shall I say trial and error development. I also need to really thank (smsmike), because of what he posted in one of the threads. He made mention of using DVDD in ISO vs. FILE mode. Well let's just say I wasn't on the right track before. I must of read that particular thread 10x and after a little fiddling around and putting several pieces of many puzzles together I am on the right track and have successfully backed up about 6 differant titles (HITCH/XXX/HOSTAGE/PRECINCT13) just to name a few and have tested them all on my PC and DVD player.
My first attempt was with XXX, but the weird thing was I received an error from SHRINK stating unable to burn @ 8X, but it also stated burn rate 4X and finished the burn @ what looked like 4X??? I am positive that my burn rate was set no higher than 3X, because in SHRINK I disabled the (Enable overlapped I/O) function thinking this might be a problem due to media and giving me another tool to be able to burn @ a slower rate. On my second backup Office Space I used a Memorex CMC doing nothing differant than the first backup. Let's just say it was a no go with Memorex after 2 seperate attempts. Next I used another type of media a Phillips CMC and it was a successful backup and burn baby burn it did.
I am sure I lost alot of you through my little story, but the moral is I seem to be on the right track and successful for time being. although I have decided to stop playing with crap media and purchased a pack of Verb's. I was merely interested in testing all the media first to see if all the hype was true and my conclusion is Memorex is junk and Phillips is not worth the trouble and Verb's are a go so far. I will post Mike's thread from the "Need Help with Hitch" thread which is in DVD+R for Newbies forum.

I was reading through the replies to this topic and was a bit taken back by some of the advice. First, I can't understand why anyone would use ISO mode for anything what so ever. It make no sense to convert from File Mode (which the disks are formatted in) to ISO mode. That conversion is just asking for trouble. If you just stick with the defaults (File Mode) in Decrypter and Shrink, you will have No Problems with either of the programs.
Second, I have never found a New Movie Disk that DVD Decrypter could not copy to my Hard Drive properly. I have, however, found a few disks that my DRIVES could not read all the way through. Normally, at least One of my Five Drives will read even a disk with bad factory flaws, but sometimes none of them will. The fault has NEVER been DVD Decrypter. Given a good disk, it will ALWAYS read the material and break the protection. It has never, EVER failed to do that in the two years I have been backing up DVD's. with that program, and I have well over 400 titles in my collection. I use it "Exclusively" as my first step in the backup process.
The Never Fail process is as follows
1. Copy the entire disk to your Hard Drive with DVD Decrypter.
2. Select your files from the VIDEO_TS folder and then compress them using DVD Shrink
3. Burn the resulting VIDEO_TS folder to your backup disk using Nero.
Folks, It's just that simple, and it will NEVER fail to produce a working copy of your movie.
I have used factory second, bargain basement disks of the worst possible kind and STILL produced backups that played perfectly. I don't make a habit of using cheap disks, but I have used them with very good results.
People, just do NOT try to over complicate the copy process with steps that are just flat NOT NECESSARY. With the three programs, Decrypter, Shrink and Nero, the process is mindless childs play; really...
