So I am new at burning movies and I have been using dvd decrypter to decode and then shrink to backup onto a dvd-r. The whole process works great, except when you go and watch the movie it will skip around, or the image will be fuzzy, or it will stop and the image or freeze, and so on. I read through the forums and saw that maybe it could be the writing speed, but i have no idea so here i am asking. I would appreciate the help. Thanks

my guess would be the blank dvd media quality~ :) may i ask...what kind/brand of media are you using? (PLEASE don't say memorex/hp/princo/no name) hehehe

poor media quality makes THE WORLD of difference in playback...i suggest using some GOOD quality media such as Taiyo Yuden (make sure they are genuine) or Verbatim (i prefer DVD+R format w/ coding MCC003). your picture quality will no longer have the stopping or freezing or skipping and so on you mentioned earlier. you seem to know how to use decrypter and shrink combo fairly well, your problems come from bad media now...that is my guess on it.

also, it would help me to help you if you ran your media through a dvd identifyer program...you can get the media ID coding using decrypter too~ since you are already familiar with the program. let us know~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

As far as compressing goes, it seems that every movie I do it fills up almost the entire disk no matter which movie it is and compresses at a pretty high percentage, nothing blow 60 %

I am using a HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N Burner on my hp laptop and as far as the writing speed I have been using the max 8x.

Slow down the burning speed and edit out anything you really don't need on the DVD in Shrink like different languages and subtitles. Try just using the 5.1CH english and uncheck everything else this should improve you compression. Also make sure you use the enhancments in Shrink this will take a little longer but you will have a much better quality backup in the end :-)

Cheers
