Okay, so I opened up the PS2, had to do some things to it, but the point is, it doesn't read the disk. it nows it's there, because it says 'reading disk' and all that jazz, but it never actually loads anything. never gives me a 'read error', but never loads anything. I tried moving that little white wheel thing-- no good. Did I maybe unplug something when I was messing around inside the box? thanks a lot guys, i don't know what the problem is.

and no, it's not just a dirty disk.

here's some possibilities:

1. dirty laser, clean with alcohol and q tip
2. white cog needs to be adjusted.(you said you already did that)hopefully you put it back into original position
3.bad laser ( did you try all different types of media) cd, dvd so on

but doesnt cleaning the lazer with alcohol ruin the lazer?

use a little bit of alcohol and then used the dry side of the q tip to clean the laser after using the alcohol.

i never had problems w/ that. other people say isopropyl alcohol.

i just use rubbing alcohol.

plus you can check all the ribbon cables to make sure they are all connected. there are four on the side of the mobo and then one that runs from the laser to the mobo.

instead of alcohol you can use the maxell laser cleaner
