hey, i have been reading the threads and they have been alot of help. i have been able to play back-up ps1 games with no chip or swap magic. i used an orginal game and when the playstation emblem came up i wood do the card-swipe trick and my back up would work. the problem is, how come when i do this with a ps2 game it comes up with an error saying please insert a format disk. i have tried with both orginal ps1 and ps2 games but still not working. could it be the game or is there anything i can do. another qsn is can the ps2 play cd-rws?

you CANNOT play backups of ps2 games without a mod, and this is why

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs.

So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip.

With the boot-discs (swap magic) you need a 'tool' to open
the tray without pressing eject for the backups to work.

there is NO other way without modding your ps2, why do you think we spend money if we dont have to?

and no you cannot use a copy of swap magic, as your ps2 wont read it!

yeh it helped a lil. can it play rw disks though. i have found a new boot program similiar to swap magic and ill tell u if it works. thanks for the help though.
