I bought some discs recently, and with DVD Identifier they say TYG02, and that they are Taiyo Yuden, but I am not 100% sure that they are REAL Taiyo Yuden Discs.
If you need more info, I will oblige.

Look on the inner hub of the disc for some tiny hard to see letters/numbers. TYG02's (8x) should have GG000xxx. The x's will be batch numbers but the GG is a dead give away of them being real and not fake. TYG01's (4x) would have GD000xxx.

Yeah, can you imagine the turmol and trouble we would all be in if it wasn't for places like this. I still remember when I first decided to backup some DVD's. You guessed it. I bought Memorex blanks.
Ye gads. I still have nightmares about it.
One thing is for sure, don't buy on name alone. These big companies don't seem to care about quality but only sales of junk. :)

you are so very correct~ :) some of these companies nowadays ONLY care about profits~ naturally, quality control goes downhill and then, you guessed it, THE CONSUMERS are the ones who get screwed in the end...oh well, it's always a good thing to "be in the know" before going out and purchasing media..i've been doing this for over 3 years now, so you can imagine i've tried MANY different brands (can safely say about 80% of ALL brands out there i have tried at one time or another) from the VERY POOR quality to what i use now, the great quality Taiyo Yudens and my fav. MCC003 8x DVD+R Verbatims~
just be educated before buying media,...it will save you a lot of headache and a LOT of wasted $$$ in the long run~ good luck everyone

Well, unfortunately the disc serial number on the inner rim was T1017. Which from a couple other threads that I read means that they are fake.
I bought them from silvertekmedia....do not buy from them.
They sell fakes.
I ordered some real TYs from Meritline so hopefully all is good, and I am getting my money back on the fakes.

very good to hear sk0t~ :) at least u getting a refund...yes, those are DEFINITELY FAKE TYs...at least now you know~ :) knowledge is a powerful thing~
your meritline order should have no problems..it's always a good idea to VERIFY with the above information whenever purchasing TYS...i know i always do, regardless of which vendor i purchase from...it's a good habit...2nd nature to me now.

I was just wondering what approach you took to successfully get your money back on the fakes. Was it like "I'm gonna tell ebay about your false claims on your auctions" or like "Give me my money back NOW!" or what. I just had the same problem with this guy and would like to know the best way to get my cash back and move on.

It seems like DVD-R's are the types of discs that are being produced by the so called fake companies and producing there own fakes of the best media but is it me or do you hardly ever see this with DVD+R media or are there just as many companies that produce the DVD-R's producing the fake +R's?

Notify eBay and PayPal or your credit card company. Stay professional and ask for a refund based on the fact that the discs aren't authentic. Save ALL correspondence- that's why you keep it professional ;-)
I am gonna run a listing called Stay away from Silvertek's fake media... LOL
I'm gonna see how long it runs before it is removed..

Hey kiv,
Quote: to what i use now, the great quality Taiyo Yudens and my fav. MCC003 8x DVD+R Verbatims~
You got that backwards according to YOU. It should read "the great quality MCC003 DVD+R verbatums and my fav. taiyo yuden.
Are you comming around to MCC003 dvd+r's and actually putting them 1st on your preference list?
Good thing that TY bandwagon isn't a boat cause you'd be taking on water. Gotta give ya some shite buddy, you know me. I love TY too but the MCC003's are at the top of my list as you already know.

Yeah kivory666 is probably just making the final coordinate settings on that nuke soon to be headed my direction. He's probably not interested in just sinking my boat but rather vaporizing it instead.~

my TY radar as well as my Verb radar just focused on this thread...*beep beep beep* going off the charts~ :)
well, as of late, to answer your query my buddy mort, i have been going through my MCC003 Verbs like a madman~ :) so, the day i posted that response, i was on a VERB-high~ :) my order of preference has not changed as of yet, BUT, that single day, i was about to jump on creaky's Verb boat wholeheartedly~ :)
most of my days are TY days, but, there are SOME days that my Verbs take control and i have to order a FULL RETREAT of my TY army~ :)
u 2 are wearing me down...if i become a POW and you guys spoon-feed me Verbs every day, i might just crack under the pressure :)
hehe...good to hear from you both mort and creaky~ just made my day~ thank you.
