Phillips DVD Reader

I have a problem with a Phillips model LX7000SA DVD Video/SACD reader. It plays any original DVD, but will not recognise a backed-up DVD at all.
We are in area 2 and even though the recording is done using the all-region settings it simply will not recognise the DVD at all. This has to be a Phillips feature as my Akai recognises and reads back-up DVDs.
I use DVD Shrink to create back-up DVDs.
Can anyone suggest a cure?
