DVD WRITER PROBLEM

Well I am not a noob but seem to have some retarted problem, since i dont wanna format my comp, i need to burn stuff on dvd first, but one problem, everytime i try to it says my dvd-write is jsut a cd-drive and says their is nothing in my drive when i try to rip somethiong or try to burn something, i use nero and other programs do the same so i dont think it is the program, i have spyware killers, good virus checkers and i am sure nothing to serious is on my computer, i was wondering if anyone knows what i should do, i updated my latest firmware for my dvd-writer and that did nothing, then i used windows updater, and it worked once, then did the same shit again after i restarted it, so i was wondering would anyone know what i would be able to do? I really have no idea.

Doesn't look like a MEDIA problem....can a mod move this to the right forum? It would probably be better served there.....
