hi, i just received my flip top cover and installed today. i was extremely careful not to bounce anything due to the laser...

once i was done installing i tried placing a game in there and it wouldn't read...you could hear the laser running but it sounded like it was not finding the disc.

my heart was beating 1.000 miles per hour...i was swetting like crazy...i thought i screwed up my ps2.

after trying a couple of times...i got the disc to read...

here is my question....i noticed that the flip top cover...you actually have to force it a little to open up and to close it down. i thought when i ordered that we just had to push it down just like the PSONE...i was wrong...

so...does this pushing up and down thing...it takes a little bit of a beating...doesn't this make the laser get out of place and screw up the playstation?

should i have gotten a slide card instead?

this flip top cover i got from consolesource.com seems to harsh on the laser...

please let me know your thoghts...

PS> i was thinking about sanding the lip of the flip top a little bit so it doesn't take a lot to push down ont eh ps2...

thank you.

i have a flip top on my V7 from http://www.clearxbox.com/site/pages/cat_ps2.html
and it works fine. The only thing i had to do is not put the screws back in the botton of the PS2
When i did it was too tight and game me disc read errors.
once i removed the screws and put the top back on it has worked like a charm for 2 years. Mine opens and closes without having to force it at all.

i did place the screws on mine but i did not tighten them up...i left them a little lose.

but are your guys flip top like the PSONE top where you push in and he lid pops open?

or you have to open manually and close the lid by forcing it up and down? i am sorry...maybe i am not explaining it right...but do you know what i mean?

it seems that the little "lip" or "bracket"...or whatever you call it is too wide that it grabs to much when opening and closing...i have to force it down and force it up a little...and i am affraid that might make the laser move or get screwed up by closing and opening...

unless with time it becomes easier to open and close as the plastics wear on one another and get lose a little...

thank you for your info...

mine works like this
you press the button on the front of the top and it flips open
Then you press the lid down manually and apply a little pressure and it clicks shut
nothing special to it.

hey steimy...mine doesn't have any buttons to press down...mine works just like...for example...have you seen computers that have doors on the front that you need to open to get to the drives? you pull open and then you push in and it clicks? do you know what i am talking about?

well...my ps2 flip top cover works like that...

you see...i was under the impression that these flip top covers were designed just like the flip top of the PSONEs...you push button down and pops up...and then you easily press it down (i guess yours is like that).

anyhow...i got mine from consolesrouce.com

thank you all for your input on this topic...

hey steimy...just checked the link you posted on a different thread that i also posted...about your flip top...yeap...your is like the PSONEs...mine sucks...it has no push button nor ringes to make the lid pull up...mine is all manully...that is why i was/am concerned about the usage of it...i do have to force it a little to open up and to close it down...

i am affraid the laser will get out of place...

if you are that concered i say you just spend another $20 and get one from Clearxbox.com
It is cheaper than the $50 you will spend on a new laser
and who knows what to have it installed.
