if you think the image you have is working and the media you use is ok,then try the "if all else fails method"
open up the image in isobuster, and on the left hand side where it says "session 1",...>right click on this
then,select "extract session 1 <image>"...user data *tao,*iso
this will give you image named blah blah.TAO
extract it to a folder
rename the "tao" text to "iso",and burn it
see if that works

do your other backups work ok then? you mention that you have NO fliptop.. so you must be using a slidecard then?
I got the punisher to backup just by using dvd decrypter to copy the iso to the harddrive then used nero to burn the iso to a dvd-r disc.. i usually use ritek g04/g05 discs or verbatims are good too.
What speed were you using to backup? ... I normally use 8x, but some people's computers can't handle that speed for some reason and they end up with coasters...so I'd suggest trying 4x and seeing how that goes.
Hope it works for you...good luck

on Philips 8X DVD-R

I figured out how to do it now. I opened it with IsoBuster then select "extract session 1 <image>"...user data *tao,*iso then saved it as the punisher.iso now its an iso image, is that right or wont it work? If it wont work im confused :(

Yes im using the dvd disc, i havent got any other dvd backups, ive used stinkys aio disk with cd swap magic and it worked fine. When the insert disc screen shows i swaped it for an original copy of san andreas and it loaded and the swap magic screen went red like its supposed to, so does that mean its the backup?

Ok, now im confused. What im saying is that the red screen does come up.
No thats not how im trying to boot it. I put in swap magic dvd, it comes up with the load program, video mode: normal screen, i use the slide tool left-right, put in the punisher backup push tray closed, left-right-left press x then get error message. :)

to boot a ps2 game with swapmagic
you do the following
you do not need to use an original copy of san andreas,i dont know who told you that???
load the swapmagic DVD DISK
when prompted, use the slide card to remove the swapmagic disk frpm the ps2
put the COPIED game in the tray, and use the slide card to close it
press x (or whatever button it is)
it should boot
