Can not burn DVD-R

Ok here it goes. Im pretty new to this, but I have RECENTLY began making alot of coasters. I am getting burn errors that read kile "fixated disk" and the real puzzle ... the error shows my burner as being a DVD+ only??????

then try DVD+R discs some will only do one or another
