Hello.

I've got a VOB. I want to extract the video/audio and turn it into a normal MPEG2 file on my PC.

I don't want to change the quality of anything so it ought to be a piece of cake to do this. But how? Someone point me in the right direction.

Right so no-one on the whole forum knows? Wow. You're all so helpful to lurkers like me. If it can't be done at least say, so I'm not sat here waiting.

Hi, fingerz!

There are several shareware DVD rippers out there. I'm demoing a couple right now. I found AOA DVD Ripper did a better job transferring to AVI and mpeg, and ripping audio to .wav separately.

Worked fabulously - smooth video using Directshow window. It takes a while though - slower than realtime for mpeg2 - a 5 minute video took about 15 minutes to extract. I cut a 1 minute clip to 320X240 AVI in about 1 minute (another minute or so for the .wav file). It does have an option to shutdown your PC when done for those long, overnight jobs.

It will extract full movies, chapters or clips (you set start/end/length times), and allow you to choose audio quality, AVI encoder, etc.

Here's the link: http://www.aoamedia.com/
and a guide, which is most helpful:

I got the demo from tucows.com.

FWIW - hope that helps. It isn't direct VOB support, but it works. I prefer smaller AVI files for lower cpu load, so it's a workable solution for me.

I have used Mpeg Direct maker in the past for this.

However I have found this AVSVideo converter which is cheap, although I have never tried it.

Download the shareware version here...
