As far as the gifs go, if the mods don't care, why should we? I've seen worse.
I was using a friends computer to post my previous post and his PC happens to use a slow connection, and it took much longer to load the page that my own PC would, and I know for a fact, that the size of people's signature's have been commented on tons of times by other dial-up users.

Well, dial up on this site is a losing proposition. When it gets busy, the dial up guys suffer no matter the size of the sigs. With a slow connection just getting a page up is difficult at times. There are a lot of guys with elaborate sigs on here. If it was a big problem in itself, the management should set limits. Everybody who thinks it's a problem should just rip off a report to the mods. Until they do something, it's not our place to try to dictate to others. Should there be no gifs and avatars or should they be limited? If you want to do a comparison, run properties on your sig, and then do it on mine. You'll notice yours has higher content than mine. I'm not complaining.

As for Upside OF Anger, when I ripped it to the HD with DVDD, I used AnyDVD to bypass the adverts and trailers and jump to the menu. It decrypted and ripped flawlessly to the HD folder. With the folder on the HD, I encoded with RB/CCE. Followed by a burn with CopyToDVD. RB/CCE is unquestionably the best encoder setup available for doing DVD5 backups. This entire process was done without my having to do any tweaks or editing, or selecting movie only. Simply put the disc in the ROM, run the software, put a recordable disc in the burner and take out the finished backup. The PC did all the work and I didn't have to worry about it.

There are limits on sig sizes, they just aren't re-enforced that well. And yeah, dial-up users suffer anyway, but having a big sig makes it even worse!

There is nothing wrong with my sig, the size is perfect, and I know mines has a higher detail than yours, but I'm sure that It doesen't affect you as much as it does dial-up users. Also, I wasn't complaining about your sig, I was commenting on l8nights.

I realize you weren't talking about mine. I just mentioned them for comparison. Actually, yours and mine take up about the same space. You're right, the twin pictures in the one sig take up a lot more space than anything on the rest of the page. Also, there's more to it than size in pixels. Those two pictures alone are about 176 KB compared to about 4.5 KB for yours and mine. So, a dial up would have fun with a page with those pictures on it. But, instead of mentioning it to l8nights, give that report link a shot every time you see those photos and maybe the mods will take a look at the situation. AD has so much storage though, that as far as the site is concerned those sigs are negligible. And for those with high speed and dsl, things like those sigs are nothing.

Just my two cents, being that I'm a mod on a few boards.

The sig thing can get annoying. After a while, some get really ridiculous, down right obnoxious. It's Cyber pollution.

But like I said before. I have yet to find any movie that I cannot do with DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink. Almost a whole year of new releases.

dogwood,
The catch there is not with Shrink, but with Decrypter. Decrypter has only been abandoned for a few weeks. Until then it was one of the best kept decryption apps as far as updates goes. The only thing that is dated about Shrink is it's decryption software, which hasn't been updated since last year. Shrink with Decrypter isn't dated at all, just Shrink by itself. If someone said they'd done all the releases since last year with Shrink alone, I'd say they missed some; though a bunch of movies Shrink will still do as a standalone. Get a copy of Grudge and run it in Shrink without another decryption tool and you may see what I mean. Just look back to the threads for movies with new encryption systems over the past year. Dr Shrink was good, but not clairvoyant. He didn't have the deCSS software prepared for the likes of Sony's ARccOS and the bad sector type encryption. Then, wasn't it always suggested to use Decrypter if Shrink had a problem decrypting a video.

I think I'll miss Decrypter most. It's hard to find a good ripper and especially a freeware one supported like Decrypter was. Shrink is still the best freeware transcoder, but there's a multitude of transcoders on the market. You don't need all the fingers on one hand to count the number of good deCSS software apps.

18 nights, no that's l8nights with an L. Just kidding... Once created, I know of no other way of changing the username. Unless someone in management can do it for you. Some have dropped their acct and started new ones.

On pictures in sigs, a lot of people choose a gif that goes with the username, an avatar. In my case Brobear, and a walking bear with my name flashing on his chest. (Thanks to a fellow member here at AD for the name on the bear.) Some people add a small picture or banner to make a statement. Usually 1 statement at a time. ;) There are apps like ImageReady and gif tools for resizing, so if one finds something, they don't have to post it full size. As a joke I did a sports oriented jpg that took almost a page to bug one of my football friends. After the joke, I quickly removed it as not to annoy the other members. The signature section is just another area AD allows for a post and a bit of fun. However, when it gets to where a sig is overshadowing the posts to the original thread, good etiquette has been breached. My thought for L8nights is to choose one of the pictures and size it down just a bit. Next week, if you like the other picture, rotate them out. Nice thing about sigs is they're easily changed, not like those usernames.

L8nights, I don't think your sig alone is going to cause a whole lot of trouble the way it is. It just sort of jumps out, due to the size. If everyone did it the same, we would have a different looking forum. And on a saturday night when AD is busiest, even the DSL-Broadband crowd has a slowdown in service.

Have fun guys, this thread has more than run it's course. Up Side of Anger was really one of those "I don't know how to do backups properly" situations. Just needed the right software, or software combo. Any of the current top deCSS apps can handle the encryption and most transcoders can do the shrinking to DVD5, and most burners can do the burn. Success is merely in how well one chooses their apps, of course one has to know how to use them. I'll part with these software names, look them up if you aren't familiar with any, they're among the best available. Notice I didn't say best, because I'm sure someone has another opinion. LOL Of course we all know DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD, I have both. For transcoding and encoding, I use RB/CCE and DVDCopy3. The Copy3 does an excellent job up to the larger videos, where the RB/CCE really shines. Copy3 is one of the fastest transcoders, as well as being good, while the RB/CCE requires more time for the quality. My trusty burning software is CopyToDVD and Nero. The Nero suite is for much more than burning though. Most of the apps have trials so you can check them out. Decrypter is free and there's a freeware RB, though I suggest the Pro version. With that, I'm outta here.

I have to agree with the above post by Quadcity.
I turned off DVD43 and ripped with Shrink. No black screen with 43 turned off.
BTW, this is the first time, IME that this has had to be done to back up a movie. DVD43 has decrypted every movie I've stuck in there with no problems.
