Can I record onto 8X DVDs with a 4X recorder?

Hi there,

Yes, with a 4x burner, you should be able to burn 4x, 8x and 16x media.

Check and make sure your burner firmware is up to date, this can make a difference.

i'm with arniebear on this one...yet again~!

firmware needs to be up to date for the older dvd burners to recognize the newer media...nothing wrong w/ your 4x burner i assume, so it's probably firmware issue that is causing your 4x burner to NOT recognize the faster/newer media... a simple update SHOULD resolve the issue and you will be burning away...
