You would need to convert/remux to AVI. Whether you convert or remux depends on the contained streams. For instance if the ogm contained a compatible XviD video stream and mp3 audio, you could simply remux. If the audio was vorbis, you would need to convert it, same goes for the video if it was say VP62.

Well I believe it does have a XviD compatible video. I ran G-spot and it gave me 4cc = DX50, Video = DivX5.0, audio name = ogg_vorbis_1. Why would someone encode using this codec, what advantages does it have to there more common codecs. I have tmpgnec, will can I remux with it. I know what a multiplexer is in electronic terms but what does remux (which I assume means re-multiplexing?) do for a video/file?

TMPGEnc can only multiplex to mpeg ps streams and it requires compatible input.

vorbis I would say is a common codec. As to why to use it over something else. Firstly if you are going to use ogm as a container, it makes sense to use vorbis audio, also vorbis is pattent free, although that doesn't matter if you are using MPEG4 video. It also tends to offer better quality than say mp3.

For ogm-->avi I would suggest mencoder with -ovc copy and -oac mp3lame to copy the video and re-encode the audio to mp3.
