I have a copy of my xbox hard drive on my pc. I'd like to erase all traces of Halo2 so that it would be like putting the game in for the first time.
Here's why: Last week I signed on to XboxLive and received a message that there was a new download necessary to play online. I downloaded the content and since then have been unable to play the game either online or offline.
The game boots up to the menu page and everything is fine until I actually try to play. While online or in split screen mode I get a "failed to load the map" error and when I try to play the campaign I get the dreaded "We're having problems reading your disk. It may be dirty or damaged" error.
I've replaced the DVD drive and I've taken my original Halo2 game disk to a friend's house and it works fine on his console. My other games play fine on my console. This leads me to the conclusion that the problem resides on the hard drive. The Xbox folks want me to pay for shipping then pay them about 80 bucks to fix the problem. Since I'm convinced the problem is with the hardware which I purchased from them and/or the downloaded content they forced me to use, I have a big problem paying them to fix the problem.
My xbox was a virgin before this event and I don't want to mod it. I like to play online and have no desire to cheat, but right now I can't play my favorite game online.
So if anyone can let me know if there is a way to tell which files are associated with which games and how to delete them in such a way that my Xbox will still work and I won't get banned from Xbox Live when I re-write the hard drive I'd greatly appreciate it.
I'd prefer to keep all the files of my other games intact, but am willing to wipe it clean like it had never been used if this is necessary and possible.
