@ Mort81--Naw naw its cool. You were helpin somebody so its not a problem. It might've been the longest one I've ever seen...except maybe from those guys who use Nero to compile all their system specs and then post them....

Alahar,
You're very welcome. That benq booktype management utility will allow you to booktype your DVD+R media to dvd-rom. You can then verify that it IS booktyped dvd-rom with dvdidentifier.

@aldahar,
If you have Nero on your computer, perhaps, you might want to try these simple steps below. That's what I did and every back ups of mine turns out to be DVD-ROM. Hope this will help you a little.
Here is an easy steps to set your "book type setting" from a DVD+R into a DVD-ROM format using Nero.
01) on your desktop, double click on your "Nero StartSmart" icon.
02) on the "arrow drop down menu" select either "DVD or CD/DVD"
03) select/mouse your "copy and backup" icon (the 2 silver discs & camera icon)
04) click on "Copy DVD" (now Nero Express should automatically come up)
05) click on "Options"on the right hand next to your "Source drive" and "Destination drive".
06) now under "Book Type Setting" on the lower left corner, arrow it down and select either "Automatic" or "DVD-ROM", then click "OK", and presto... you're done, that's it.
07) now exit out and everytime you perform a dvd back up using Nero regardless if it's Nero Burning Rom, Nero Express, NeroVision Express, or Recode it will "automatically" set your back up as a DVD-ROM format in prior to back up.
NOTE: I set mine to "Automatic" in the "Book Type Setting" and all my backed up copies are automatically set to DVD-ROM.

Thanks a lot.
I already set it up, at the momment i don't have any trouble on DVD+R media with Nero, but thank you anyway with the valueable information.
I had try the Book Type Management V8.4, as the result end up failure. I'm not so sure is it I set it up correctly or not, I can change the booktype for the driver but not for the media. Please tell me more.

Thanks catfreak, you explaination is the first competent explaination on this topic I have seen or heard. I have only found this site today so no one take offence. It makes sense out of some more detailed explainations with nonsense mixed in with the facts. I did not know what to believe.
The more technical artical was much more informative. From my point of view the better technology in the R+ might be meaningful if the disks were used at very high speeds where a more relyable format will be less prone to failure. We do not play the disks at high speeds. However, I thank Mort81 for sharing such an informative article. I really now know the difference but will need to cut and paste it into my notes. I will never remember all that. I Googled the web for that information about 18 months ago and only found garbage.
I personally have seen no compatibly differences between the R+ and R-. My burner can read and burn both. My software probably stamps the "book type" as a normal DVD. You will find a greater difference in the quality of the media and the speed in which it was read and burned than the + or -. I have bought DVD blanks for as little as $.06 each. However, I have to burn real slow to get a good copy vs a brand name high speed disk. However, once it is burned, I have not seen any difference in the any media. I use the junk DVDs if I have the time or my kids are doing the burning. My kids abuse all disks terribly. They are only allowed to use backups. At 6 cents I do not even care. I just chuck it and make the the kids create a new back up on their computer. This is the best way to protect your videos.
Lastly, I have been told by so called experts that a particular reader will not read either R+ or R-. That was not true in my case it read it just fine. But my software has a setting for maximum DVD compatibility which must set the book type. I suggest you just experiment with your reader and burner and use what works best for you. I suspect it will not matter.
