here's the thing: i have a concert on dvd and i wanted to rip/record one section of that concert onto my computer..i tried using virtualdub..opened the file, deleted the sections i didnt need, saved as avi, after everything is done the resulting file contains the video file that's not in sync with the audio..whats up with this? anybody know a different method that i can use??

You can try DVD Shrink in re-author mode using start and end frames, and see if you can get your clip. Here is a guide on how to do it
